As a calibrator, that's a seriously bad turbo calibration. You can hear it all over the surge line, and the blow off valve wasn't helping, with the turbo stalling all the time. I would be pretty pissed off if the 1.0 in the Fiesta ends up that bad.
Other than that... as I watched it, I kept thinking of the middie-Locost that was done here. A lot. Cool idea that many here can pull off.
Did you see the nest of hoses under there, especially the turbo inlet? I would bet that ugly noise at mid throttle that sounds like surge is just some stupid resonance in that hacked together turbo inlet. And the poorly tuned BOV could actually be well tuned, and just sounds like that, I forget what brand does, but I'm pretty sure theres one that sounds similar. That turbo seems to make all sorts of strange noises, but I'm finding that turbos with modern aerodynamics are, the EFR6758 in my racecar makes some really bizarre noises and I swear its not the turbine wheel hitting the muffler.
Assuming that turbo is actually in the 1.6l, I can say with pretty high confidence that it does not make any sounds like that in 1.6l- having tested 3 different one in 3 different installations. And the 1.0l I've tested doesn't make surge or stall noises as well.
With production parts like that, where they are designed to not have any noises like that at all (lots and lots and lots of time is dedicated to not have noise), the parts as advertised won't make those sounds unless it's tuned poorly. All of the hoses are there to replicate how it's installed in a car, since they probably have no idea how else to hook it up.
But, again, that's just me.

Looks more like an asphalt modified. DIRTs set higher.
Put the 1.0 in a Spec Ford racer.

But were those stock like tunes or following the edge of the compressor map to get every drop out of the turbo tunes?
In reply to Leafy:
Doesn't sound like it to me. And it's not as if the turbo in the 1.6 is that big.
I'm more bugged by the stalling- the surge sounds is more secondary, and more of an indication that it was more cobbled together. The calibration isn't that hard. While I've not personally done it, my friends have, and the details that are sweat over can't really be preceived. Whereas this is totally in your face.
So if the turbo is that close to the edge of the map- it's a pretty bad choice. Otherwise it's a bad calibration. Not that either is great. Especially consdering what this is supposed to represent.
still cool. Just not what I want put out.

Of course they could also just be doing it on purpose because it sounds cool.

Plenty of prototypes run better than that. Even ones calibrated by, well, non OEM calibrators. None of what I noticed is that hard to deal with. But that's just me.
We weren't there and have no idea what the engineers had to deal with at the time. I have a mental image of them setting the car up for a professional driver to run the 'Ring and then getting a call at the 11th hour saying, "Hey - PR dept here. We have a journalist scheduled for a test drive and need you to detune the car a bit so he doesn't kill himself and/or put our 1 of 1 prototype into a wall. Oh - and he'll be here tomorrow at 8am."
We have the benefit of getting to be internet quarterback from 1000's of miles away so it's easy to criticize without knowing the full story.
