so,
that gm paint is on there GOOD. i had laces on my turbo grand prix, same basic wheel with different bolt circle. one had some chips, and for the life of me could barely make a mark in the paint. i ended up feathering the chips with sandpaper and painting back over the factory paint. gold laces make you win the game of life, black ones just make you a little cooler.
I tried blasting today. My blaster sucks. It probably took 5 lbs of sand to do one opening.
So I hit one with aircraft stripper. It pulled the first coat off very well, but the factory coat under it was pretty stubborn. Long story short, two applications on some wheels and three on others followed by a very thorough pressure washing got them pretty well down to bare aluminum. Scuff, clean, solvent, prime, paint, clearcoat...
And...
i'm going to steal those.
