I really thought Subaru would wait until tomorrow to drop this info, but here we are.

Anyone else going to be at Subiefest tomorrow? David and I will both be there.

That is a pretty huge step-up in price from the base model for a seat, brake, wheel package. Whew.

I'd love to be there.  Maybe next year.  Yes that price seems high to me.  I may actually go to the local Subie dealer today and look at a WRX and a BRZ both.

I know the reports stating what the average new car price is, but this model will likely start in the mid forties?  Damn, it didn't seem like too long ago that the STI was in the high 30's-low 40's.  It is what it is, though.

This model and others like the CTR, GRolla, Golf R, and even a loaded GTI, etc., make me really appreciate the value of Hyundai's Elantra N.  If I was in the market today, that's likely where my money would go.  I can't imagine saying that 5-6 years ago, but "it is what it is, though."

I think this is what happens when there is no competition. The Evo went away and I don't think there is really a comparable vehicle to the WRX. It pains me to see that it might cost 44k (without destination/shipping) up from the base model of around 32k.

Actually I didn't have anything clever in that post. I just have had horrible experiences with Subaru eyesight in their more common cars (Forester, etc). Buzzes and beeps way too much

You're not wrong. At the end of 2017, I went test drove an '18 STi Limited w/Recaro package. MSRP was $44k. 

The cheap interior, turbo lag, and short gearing made me decide to keep my money.

I struggle to see the appeal for this package at basically Civic type r prices. The TR will likely be in the ~3400lb range while a base non sunroof car is ~3280. The original TR was meant to be a lightweight blank canvas and this is the opposite direction.

Those 19s look like they must weigh a ton, almost nobody actually tuning or tracking their car runs 19s. The seats might be slightly more aggressive but I'm sure still nowhere near enough for track duty. The brakes are basically the only upside to this as the sliding piston calipers and whatever low tenp rating oem pad they put with them barely last a single lap. 

That said I'm biased, and very happy with my MY22 base, no huge screen, still has android auto/carplay, no fancy radar sensors, factory 17s to use with winter tires. Feels very classic subaru just with (slightly) better mileage and a much better factory tune. 29k vs 44k+ I could buy a base model and a track car for the price of a TR...

Remember when all car buyers said, "You know what I want on my sporty car, lots of black plastic above the wheel wells!  That's how you'll know it's up-market!"

Yeah, me neither.  But apparently that's what Subaru heard.

I think it's going to be less than the GT.  It really is just a base model with extras car enthusiasts would want.  It doesn't have a lot of bling the GT model has.  I find myself wondering if 17s or 18s will clear the brakes.

It's interesting you say that, because the commentator noted that the TR is actually based on the GT.

So I'd be pleasantly surprised if it costs less than the GT.

Unfortunately not, but I did find it interesting that the commentator mentioned that Subaru USA didn't want to put an STi wing on the TR (unlike the Australian-market TR), because they didn't feel it was right–and that many consumers would probably have felt the same way.

Yeah, good to see the car in the flesh. Sounds like a GT with bigger brakes, better seats and a few other extras. This time, they mentioned, TR stands for Track Ready. On the previous WRX TR, it stood for Tuner Ready.
