Well summer is slowly coming upon us. (In NE, anyway!)
What are some of the lesser known convertibles that would make for a good disposable summer car? (In the same way that a beater subaru makes for a good winter beater)
2+2 seating is essential.
I look forward to the inevitable hilarity that GRM always provides in threads like these.

V6 Mustang of the 94-98 variety should be hilariously cheap and sloppy. As a bonus you should be able to make most of your money back if you shine it up.

If you wanted a cheap convertible, you needed to get it in the fall/winter, not the spring/summer...kind of like motorcycles.

+1 on Mustangs.
Maybe it's due to living in California, but 80% or better of the foxbodies and SN95s on Craigslist are convertibles.
any car can be made a convertible for ~$30

That too.
Unless you're okay with the top not being 100%. Sellers with sub-par offerings will put 'verts on the market nowish knowing they're more likely to be able to be rid of them.
Prices definitely go up as the temps go up.
As for beaters...

Yeah, the timing is bad for sure.
Maybe I'll go the CRX + zipty842 method route.
In January I moved to Florida. Even tho I scoured the CL ads before moving (both in Memphis...where I was moving from and Jacksonville) the only 'verts I ever ran across were the VERY occasional 124 Fiats (which I now wish I had looked at more closely). Mustangs? Actually, not all that common here or in Tn., at least not on CL, nor are Camaros. Both are handily outnumbered by Miatas. I realize it's getting to be a cliche of sorts, but "unusual" cars seem to be more common in/near Atlanta (7 to 8 hours from here).

Dammit, beat me to it, since the OP DID say the word "hilarity."
Get a Geo Metro convertible, otherwise.

disposable+convertible = lebaron
Sure, you could find other cheap, disposable convertibles but when they have issues they'll annoy you more than they're worth. If something on a lebaron takes more than 30 minutes to fix, you're doing it wrong.
cheap + 4 seats + good chance of a 5 speed + junkyard hop-up potential

Old Cadillac or similar american boat.
Classic SAAB 900.. preferably a turbo. Chances are, if not rusty, you can make your money back when you sell
One of these slammed and tightened is really cool.
