SUV for someone who hates SUV's?

1984 Suburban 2wd 6.2L Diesel with a banks kit. 25mpg, power to tow and room to camp indoors.

If you do a tune up on the stock engine, and get a 3.73 rear gear it should be good to go as far as driveline. Stiffer rear springs, and some better shocks and your suspension will be good. Brakes are fine if you get some nice pads, but there are also options for upgrading the brakes as I have.

LTD or Grand marquis Wagon would be cool too. The wagon could at least carry more in the way of spares or camping equipment

Not to mention that any Series III that hasn't got a V8 in it will still drink for England, especially when towing, and will be overtaken by someone with a horse and buggy.

Willys station wagon with v8 conversion - classic, quirky, but there's parts around if you dig a little. Full size bronco is good to go. Early broncos are cool, but the wheelbase is a little short to make it a good tow vehicle - esp. if they're lifted).

More than I would have thought but still may be a bit short for car and trailer.

I'd second the full size jeep, or if you have no need for a 4wd vehicle, I'd say go with a full size wagon (Caprice, Custom Cruiser, Road Master) (Just watch for sagging air ride suspensions)

You can buy a nice truck for less then it would take to fix ANYTHING on that car when it breaks.

I'd like to throw in another vote for a 3-door Suburban. There's just something cool about them.

hahaha.. a 404 unimog tow vehicle.... a 404 trans will not hold and that little 6 popper will be wheezing all the live long day.

Unless you need 4 wheel drive stay away from an suv. A van or station wagon will do a better job and get better mileage.
