The really funny part is remember when I first saw robocop and thinking how cool these cars were (I had a 89 sable for a while) now I look at them and think that they should be in a lemons race.

police cars used to be a visible deterrent- you saw them and you made sure you weren't doing anything wrong and thus play more safely while in public..

now they are all stealthy to catch you in the act- to make sure you pay for your crimes.. with the emphasis being placed on the word "pay".. safety is a distant second to revenue generation these days.

Presence as a deterrent is still in play in many areas around here allowing up to 15 mph before pulling someone over. Cities and townships may get revenue for ticketing, but most sheriffs offices get nothing out of ticketing unless they set up a deal with the state usually including tactical traffic enforcement groups which usually enforce specific laws.

The real issue us that there is more traffic than before, therefore more traffic laws are ignored, more people are hurt, and traffic enforcement is stepped up.

Not suprising......its stripped down a bit, and the luxury SHO will go mid 13's.....Hemi LX chassis cars aren't that fast.

I believe the Caprice has the highest straight line speed. (so they claim fastest) Ford has the highest lap times.

Good point, I believe the sho's are limited at 144(so I assume the same for the interceptor)......let me revise my statement.....The quickest in that bunch above is the interceptor.

Michigan State Police test every standard police vehicle available yearly. One of the Chargers had the lowest lap time on their track.

Its not the interceptor, but the SHO made it's debut in MIB:

It's going to be worse now with projector headlights. I'm having trouble telling apart the Chargers from Accord because the headlight/turn signal patterns are so similar at night.

Found this picture of you: You guys really worry that much about spotting the po-lice?

Let me get this straight...this is a pursuit Taurus that's AWD and with the turbo charged ecotec V6? Damn it. Out running that will be tough...

i wonder how the newer cars compare to the trusty old brick that was known as a "Caprice" back in the mid 90's in the Michigan State Patrol testing? i don't think the newer Crown Vickies were doing as good as the Caprice was doing in the mid 90's, but they only have results going back to '04 on the site..

I'd bet most patrol cars won't have the twin turbo setup.

If I'm ordering a fleet I feel AWD is useful to everybody. TT in every car will end up getting guys into trouble and isn't necessary for city use usually.

It all comes down to money, so I'm kind of up in the air on that one.

Then again I've seen troopers running NOS.

im looking forward to buying one of the AWD twin turbo ford police interceptor (aka. Taurus) at an auction. From my understanding, The Tarus SHO was improved by receiving all the updated equpment from the police interceptor.

Good thing it weighs about 6000lbs.

So it's got the same power/weight ratio as any old Miata.

That one's been out since '10 model year......just sayin..

The '13 is unfortunately more agressive looking. Thats not what the point of what these cars are. They're the automotive equivelant of the British Q ship.....

Like in The Fast and Furious? What cruiser was the NOS on?

I knew a guy who owned a tow truck company. He had some hot rod care from the 50's and would highway race state troopers on the way back from accident calls in it. True story. The police are hot rod guys in uniform for the most part.

The SHO is a 3.5 EcoBoost (Not ecotec) V6 with DOHC, direct fuel injection, variable valve timing intake & exhaust making 365hp @ 5500RPM and 350ft lbs @ 1500-5000RPM. The Persuit vehicles will most likely have the 2.0 EcoBoost for fuel mileage. Most of the Highway cops will have the SHO versions for obvious reasons. City cops will have the 2.0 because fleet fuel costs are insane.

I tried to make a poll, but I guess I'm too dumb to figure it out.

Working at a Ford dealership makes me kinda biased. I do like the way the new Chargers look, especially from behind, those tail lights are super sweet. The Taurus SHO is one car I desperately wants. I never thought I'd ever say I want a Taurus, but I really REALLY do.

That's a Ford 500 in the top pic there.
