Up here in Canada there used to be the Honda Michelin Challenge. It was a support series for some of the bigger races. My dad was a scrutineer for a while. Great series very close racing and very much the precursor to the Spec Miata series of today. In fact it was revisited in 2004

Yeah I don't know what it is about some of those "stinger" pipes but by far the loudest car I ever heard (no I have not been to an NHRA event) was a Baja Bug on I95 in Richmond. Louder than any HD, Mustang, Camaro, straight piped diesel, even an F1 car. It was berking NUTS!
