so i came across one today in my searching. didnt know they still had an i6, i had thought they were all v6 by then, so i'm already liking the i6 part. also didnt know they made a pretty good amount of power, somehow i thought of them as a mildly quicker normal C class.

i havent driven it yet, i had to get to class but i may drive it tomorrow, so perhaps this is a little preemptive.

what should i know about this car? do they have that decomposing wiring? is it going to fail very very expensively? is its auto trans a timebomb?

The 95s and 96s had 4 speed autos. 97s have the 5 speed auto which is better but there is some brass bushing that disintegrates and destroys the trans. This usually happened around 30k or so, should have been taken care of by now.

They all have engine harness wiring problems but again that should be handled by now or could be a negotiating point.

Interiors are durable with occasional issues with the climate display.

Suspension is like Legos, the springs swap between different models and you can change spring pads for lowering.

Overall nice cars, they would be much better with a manual swap. The swap is more likely with the C36 vs C43 because there are Mercedes manual trannies that will bolt up to the I6.
