I've used Hawk Ceramic on my wife's 2005 Impreza with good success. Better bite than OE, long life, no dust (less dust than the OE). I'd buy them again.

Parts house stuff is a dice roll, as mentioned above.
I put akebono street performance pads on my s2000 and they've been excellent. Enough so that my DD will get them when needed.

Just did the Power stop bundle from Rock Auto on the mom car and it felt good to me and she seems pleased. I think all four corners rotors and pads was about $150 shipped for a 1999 Beetle
