I bought a used Autopower Roll bar and it was shipped on DHL (no longer in this business, thank goodness)

The tracking said "out for delivery" but nothing showed up. Next day it said "shipping exception" so I called them and they said it was lost. I drove down to their terminal and asked to look in the "lost and found" area. It was sitting against the wall with the parts taped together and no label. I showed them a picture of the item on my phone and the let me claim it.

Well, there was the shredded magazine I received through Canada Post. It had apparently been caught in one of their sorting machines. They gathered up all the torn pieces and put them in a bag and delivered it. On the bag was stamped "officially repaired"

But then last Christmas I bought my wife a pair of heated gloves. They came from Edinburgh. They arrived in my yard 13 hours after I had hit the buy button. And they were shipped through Gatwick in London.

Wow! That is crazy that they found it. At least the customer recieved it in the end.

My issue is that I know exactly who has it and where it is at but I cannot get it. The seller simply disapeared after saying he would contact them and release the package to me. After about 6 months, I got tired of waiting and bought some Bilstein 5100s

I consider it a $100 learning experience

@ the OP That is not a fedex problem that is an item that is packaged incorrectly.

I get and ship things all the time and the BIGGEST issue is that people pack things in box's that can move around. The laws of physics take over and the contents in the box usually ends up outside the box.

Another observation is that insured shipments very rarely get lost stolen or damaged in shipping. IT is always the ones that are not insured that have the problems.

You seem to imply that shippers actually look at the packages and decide whether or not to be complete dipE36 M3s based on whether there is insurance or not. This seems plausible, i just want to make sure it's what you're saying.

Or, perhaps the types that ship with insurance are also the types to pack items appropriately.

Well, that covers 1/3rd of the "lost, stolen, or damaged" statement.

The State of Arkansas Medical Board strongly recommends against sending your license renewal via USPS and to use someone like FedEx or UPS, because the renewals were getting lost in the mail. Just Sayin'.

Just an observation of mine. I make and receive 1 to 10 packages a week. Insured ones show up looking good. Uninsured ones are always the ones that show up looking like they have had the crap kicked out of them.

Well that is anecdotal evidence that the people who make up these shipping companies are intentionally being asshats because they know they can. It's not that they CANT do a good job. They just look at your package long enough to decide whether it can cause them any trouble with their employer, and then decide how lazy of a berkeley to be about it based on that info.

Shipped by Dillon FedEx

Took advantage of the 25% off Easter coupon and bought myself a birthday present. I was excited to see it waiting on me when I got home from work. Then I got closer...

Shipping was only $24 for a package listed as 131 lbs. I guess you get what you pay for. My thought process was, it's more than worth $24 to save me from going to Little Rock on Easter Sunday. I've emailed HF customer service, the saw is a 131 lbs paper weight at the moment, the dent in the motor prevents the motor from turning. I might be able to take the cover off the motor, beat the dent back out and never have a problem with it, but I'm waiting to hear from HF before I proceed any further.

UPS did that to me with a HF engine hoist. The box was damaged. UPS left it on the porch. The hydraulic ram was missing. I called HF up and suggested they just send me the ram and that's what they did.

I think this yet another example of the internet blowing things out of proportion. Sure, bad E36 M3 like this happens but it's the exception and not the rule. We use FedEx exclusively where I work and really depend upon them. There have been a few times when we were let down but it ain't often. It's a numbers game and these posts are just examples where the short straws were drawn.

Just had my $995 QuickJack delivered by FedEx. We weren't home so the driver signed my name for me and left it at my front door. Didn't even spell my name correctly. WTF? I had to have a friend go to my house and move it to my backyard because I didn't want it stolen off my front porch. Really annoying because usually they won't leave anything without a signature and then I have to wait an extra day to sign the slip and leave it on my door if it's not an expensive item I have coming.

In reply to Carro Atrezzi:

In my experience it's regional, when I lived in Fayetteville, AR, FedEx were liars, and crooks, while UPS was generally great, and I got a USPS delivery driver fired for multiple lies about why they couldn't deliver packages. In Columbus, OH, FedEx was great, UPS was okay, and USPS was great. There were local "contractors" for deliveries that Amazon used in Columbus that were liars and as shady as they come. In central AR, UPS has been great, and this is the only issue I've had with FedEx since I've been here, USPS squished a package, but it was the dolt that shipped its fault. So my anecdotal evidence points to all shipping companies being E36 M3ty somewhere.

I haven't heard back from my email yet, I may call, here's hoping they send a replacement motor, there's not enough box left to ship the thing back in, and I don't intend to haul the thing to the store.

In reply to 93EXCivic:

I'm guessing it is or was a common issue, there's a 16 Ga piece of sheet metal bent at a 90 degree angle intended to provide extra protection on the corner the motor is on. The protective piece has a sticker that says something like, "this isn't a part." However, since the box was so torn up the metal piece had slid toward the middle of the box and provided zero protection to the motor.

No, you have to call them.

I'm near Fayetteville. The FedEx Ground people are seriously not-good. It's contracted. I think they have gotten better over the years, as 10 years ago, it was really, really bad, especially with the "out in the woods" deliveries. In town is better. Regular FedEx is great, if you can afford it.

I am tempted to expound on the attitude difference in employees created by the FedEx vs UPS business models (contractor vs union) but I tend to E36 M3 up quite enough GRM threads with "politics".

I do know that the last time I had a serious conversation with a UPS driver who delivered to my house, he has just come back to work after a year off of work recovering from knee replacement surgery which was covered by his good insurance, and his job was still there when he came back for it, and after the period of time he had been with the company he made $35/hr to move boxes. I think the UPS model creates incentives to invest yourself in the work and play the long game vs chucking boxes at concrete until you find a job with a company that actually gives a E36 M3 about you.

Ironically enough, there are probably quite a few USPS employees who wish their pension plan wasn't so lavishly well-funded. Compared to FedEx, that's kind of a good problem to have.

Happy birthday to me, I spent 45 minutes on the phone. I've got to send it back, frustrating, their Engrish and my "twang" makes it difficult to have a phone conversation, not to mention the background noise on their end. The motor is too expensive for them to just send a replacement.

My suggestion of them sending me a new motor and billing FedEx for it didn't work, I talked to two different reps and got two different "stories" about what they can and can't do.

Their original plan was to have me wait 5-7 business days for them to mail me a FedEx return label, and then have me call FedEx to schedule a time to come pick it up, on a weekday I'd have to take off work for, not happening. Then I'd wait 5-7 business days for it to get back to their warehouse, them process and ship a replacement, which would be another 5-7 business days. TWENTY-ONE days! WTF!?!?!

I got them to just email me a label instead, I'll wrap the piece of junk in what's left of the box and duct tape, then take it to FedEx myself.

I got them to refund my shipping and they are allegedly mailing me a $15 gift card for the trouble, but not because they wanted to, only because I insisted they refund my shipping, and the "supervisor" didn't want to speak to me when I requested to speak to them. I'm sure it was, "see if a gift card will shut him up?"

So I guess I'll take it to FedEx after work Monday, and in 14+ business days I'll get another broken band saw.

I ordered an engine hoist from harbor freight on a black friday deal with free shipping. The box that showed up looked similar to yours, it was missing one of the large casters that must have fallen out of the hole in the box. I called customer support as well as emailing. When I called they said I would have to ship the whole thing back and they would send a new one. I said forget it, I don't want to pack it back up again. I decided to just make something work down the road.

About 3 months later a single caster came in the mail from harbor freight. Apparently my email was processed and they eventually got around to sending it.
