Umm I beg to disagree... This: doesnt look bad at all, its what got me on the bandwagon in the first place. And with a little help, it can become this: MUUUCCHHH better than this turd:

The GC8 is truly one of my favorite automotive designs of the 90's. It is proportioned just right. It's aggressive without being goofy.

you guys crack me up...

first off, no one has EVER in the history of man looked at any subaru vehicle and said "damn thats a sexy car!"

And subaru stayed in business for years making ugly cars that worked well for lesbian farmers in the pacific northwest.

Somehow they got tossed up on the bandwagon for a few years, had a successful design or two, got featured in a few movies, and enjoyed the run. But if they go back to producing ugly cars that work well in the snow and the mud for odd people that refuse to accept driving a Camry or a Civic, so be it. Its their way.

I do on a daily basis. Eyeing the wife's car, breaking my neck in traffic, friend's cars. They've made attractive cars, though much of it is in the eye of this beholder. Guess you're not pervy enough.

Disagree. The previous-gen Legacy GT, in virtually any form, was a damn sexy car.

But if they go back to producing ugly cars that work well in the snow and the mud for odd people that refuse to accept driving a Camry or a Civic, so be it. Its their way.

But the thing is, they're not going back to what they do best. They're trying to make knockoff Camrys and Civics that just incidentally have AWD. They've either got no flavor at all, or they've got a horrible yucky flavor nobody can stand.

Blame it on the Euro Nannies. The pedestrian safety rules is the reason all the recent cars look like old locomotives. You just can't make slick cars anymore.

"It's likely that the future design changes we see on vehicles in the U.S. will be driven by safety standards overseas. Both Japan and Europe recently instituted more pedestrian safety standards and the European Union has even more stringent standards set to go into effect in 2010."

Those nancy pedestrians don't stand a chance against the wedge-nose of the RX-7, or even worse the pushbumpers...

I just don't understand pedestrian impact laws, especially considering that making cars pedo safe is making them less safe for the people inside of them. Screw that! If your dumb ass wants to jaywalk in front of 4000Lbs moving at 60 then you're roadkill even if it has a down-filled pillow bungeed to the berkeleying grill.

Back to scoobies, I couldn't agree with Duke more. Subaru used to make some really attractive, stupendously awesome cars. Now their entire line is vanilla knockoff crap that's trying to be like everybody else to get some sales. They've gone and nuked the damn fridge.

Remember that South Park about the new Indiana Jones? That's how I see the Subaru boardroom with Toyota coming in and well... watch the episode...

Ironic. The Euros used to accuse us stupid Americans for bumper standards making the cars ugly. They have outdone us by far!!

Yea why is it that as soon as toyota buys up a piece of subaru, subaru starts turing out crap that looks like a camry beat with an ugly stick ?

That's funny, I read the first two pages and was sure I'd be the first one to post about the new Outback...they sure have lost their minds. They're trying to be/compete with the already flooded small-SUV market (VW, Toyota, Honda, Kia, Huyndai, Mitsubishi, Nissan etc etc). I was so looking forward to the Outback wagon and now I feel disgusted...but relieved, I can now move on looking for another car.

Thats disappointing about the Outback wagon. I liked it before. Bleah.

And as for the Outback Sport, it would look good without that body-cladding. Have car manufacturers learned nothing from the Aztec?

GM was smart to leave subaru well enough alone while they were involved. (Except for teasing us with the Borrego concept that was "based" on a WRX...)

Yeah, I was actually thinking more of the TL Type S which I guess is no longer being made but I think its the best looking sedan I have seen in a long time. I do generally like the more over the top styling like my Supra has over a more subtle look. I do like their current lineup also, they just need lowered with some better looking wheels.

What body cladding? It's all steel and paint...

That's just raw ugliness.

THAT's what I wanted to turn my Impreza coupe into. GC-chassis WRXs and 22Bs are the tits. Even my base-model is sharp-looking, and people I talk to about it think its a cool car despite it being slow. Tough, quirky, good in bad weather, fun on loose surfaces: That's the Subaru I love, not that new Malibu/G37 mish-mash Legacy or hideous Outback. Even the bugeye WRX looks better to me. Hell, my younger sister wants a bugeye WRX, and she doesn't give a rat's ass about cars.

Last-gen TL Type-Ss are sexy, especially with the A-spec package (gunmetal rims, smoked tailights, and subtle spoiler/ground effects). Closest thing visually to an modern Alfa sedan in the U.S. They go like stink, too; I'd love to have one.

The GC8s didn't have a wrong line on them. The base models were rather plain, but with a set of wheels and the right grille/lamp arrangement they really came together. I think they will be one of the few Japanese cars to retain a following years from now.

The Legacy was always a bit frumpy until just recently. Subaru really nailed it the last few years. And now...ugh.

Well then it would be easier to make it look decent. Take away the two tone; I took the gray/silver for plastic body cladding.

yeah, I would agree with that :) I wouldn't necessarily call it jaw dropping sexy, but... I also think the Type-R hasn't grown tired, it still looks great as well. A few of these new designs.... hmmm... the new Mazda 3 as another example, "what were they thinking?"
