Ryan Newman's crash at the finish of the Daytona 500. Vicious hit to the roof rail right above his head. It doesn't look good, I'm hope I'm very, very wrong.

Last thousand foot crash in the Daytona 500. Ryan Newman got flipped, and then hit in the driver's window while upside-down in the air.
Saw the really big one coming in some of the pre 500 races. The aero package in these cars is worse than last year. It makes this type of thing inevitable.
I hope Ryan is ok. He is one of the really nice guys in nascar.
yeah when I saw it as it happened, I instantly got sick to my stomach... Awful hit. I had to turn away on the slo-mo. You could see the impact deform the halo...

They had the black screens around the car. Never a good sign.
I did not watch the 500. Forgot it was on. I had some thaughts on NASCAR in general that I was going to start another thread about but I wanted to do some more research on first.

That's a really hard hit. Ugh. Between this and Hubert and Wickens there's been a lot of reminders of how dangerous this sport is. Fingers crossed.
How far way is the hospital? I it is really so close they would use an ambulance? They usually use a life fight.
I know it's Twitter but one media guy tweeted that a Penske guy said Newman was awake. Take that for what it is. Hope he's ok...
Word is the ambulance hauled ass out of there, so hoping that is a good sign.

Halifax Health Medical Center is less than a mile from turn 3.

I saw him get hit by Corey in the roof, then saw the roof down. Does not look good. I hope his neck is ok.

Noneck Newman has a hell of a neck and can take a hit. I was breathless after that hit.
