What I'm thinking of is a single thread where you can throwdown any pair of engines.

To begin this thread... 2 - 1.6 lite twin cam 4 cylinders. Both from similar time periods(1980s) with similar engineering.

In one corner the Mazda B6P (The Miata 1.6)

In the other corner the Toyota 4AGE

I know little of either, but from what my Toyota nerd friends say, the 4AGE is a badass. Soooo, it's 4AGE for me.

It's close, I've owned multiples of both, but 4AGE it is.

I like the valve cover on the yota better so I'm going with that.

Owned a BP 1.6, drove a 4AGE. For me, it's the 4AGE.

My sister-in-law has an old Miata and it is slow... So I will pick the 4AGE just because of that...

4AGE. Great engine and you can bolt on a factory supercharger.

That said, they hold up well to boost.

No real world experience with the 4AGE other then one day farting with a ratty MR2 circulating a dirt oval. wouldnt idle, needed work.

My Spec Miata started its' career with 125,000 miles on the engine. No modifications for longevity whatsoever. I fed it only 87 octane. Redline was 6600 RPM I think. I shifted it at the fuel cutoff of 7400 RPM every shift of every race and did nothing but change the oil and filter every few months. That was one tough little motor and it earned my loyalty.

I miss my Isuzu 4XF1, so I would probably vote for the smaller displacement 4XE1-W 1.6L 130hp. Of course a lot of people think it was that Toyota engine (4AGE) found in the other Geo GSi. :)

The Miata motor does nothing for me and I have driven lots. Only driven one 4AGE but it did not impress me either.

Needs more LSX?

In reply to mmosbey:

Oh, no question, VQ35DE. That motor feels like a revvy V8, the Renesis feels like small four until you redline it and even then it give up a lot of power to the VQ.

Otherwise I prefer the RX-8 to the 350Z

Quite possibly the biggest auto engine rivalry ever:

4ag for me... I used to have a GTS coupe and I miss 4500 rpm 80mph freeway cruising but I would like to own an FB RX7.

How about 2jzgte VS. rb26det...

I've only driven a 4agze and B6ZE (whatever the code is that's in my '91 Miata) but not the reverse of 4age and B6T so my view is skewed towards the supercharged nature of the 'yota engine. Plus I've heard internet rumors that the 4age engine is a rip off of the Cosworth BDA...linky

4age for me.

I thought LSjuan > * ? I'm confused to the point of this thread with that knowledge already out there.

EDIT: for a small displacement 4-cyl, I have to choose the G13B. V6 I have to choose the NSX C32. V8 would be LSx. No V10 EVER. Aston makes a beautiful V12 in the Vanquish.

LS1 is only the best small-block. I'd take any of the big-blocks over it. Mopar B/RB (383/440), HEMI (426), Mark IV (396/402/427/454), Buick 400/455, Pontiac 389/400/421/455, or the Olds 455. But yeah, for small-blocks it's LSx first, then SBF, SBC, and AMC. The others aren't really that good except maybe the Mopar LA.

My favorite small 4 is the ITR motor, sweet Jemimah that's a sweet engine. There's a lot of good 4's though. Porsche 2.5/2.7, 4AGE, most of the Hondas, heck even the 2.0/2.3/2.5 Lima was a decent motor in it's day.

As for the VQ vrs Renesis, I'm a rotorhead and even I'd take the VQ. Possibly the best V6 ever made. Great engine!

with the new GMPP LSX block, you can make it a big block! What are they up to now, 454ci LSX?
