Get another 5 and add the Speed goodies and enjoy the smiles.
There's no hope for Flex handling? I love our 5 but it can't tow and doesn't come with a twin turbo that can be tuned to 400+ hp.
I've always wondered how a lowered Flex would handle. I'm sure not as good as the 5 but maybe better than most SUV/trucks people use for the same tasks.

After seeing a few 5's/MPV's lately in crashes, I can't say I'd suggest one to a family person. A member on one of our Elantra boards just lost 2 children, put his wife and the 3rd child in the hospital on a 2 vehicle crash.
The MPV and the 5 are completely different vehicles and share exactly 0 parts. I don't know anything about the MPV's crash worthiness, but the 5 was rated pretty favorably when it was new, and the 2014 (which is essentially identical to my 06) is still doing well. I'd say my 5 did exactly as it was designed, I have no injuries. I'm very pleased with it's safety (even if the airbag might have been overkill).
To make a 5 into a Mazdaspeed 5, you have to remove the entire front end. That's a lot of work, but if some lady has already done it for you...
SAAB 9-3 SportCombi. You won't have to worry about crash worthiness in it.

I JUST bought a 2010 M6 2.0T Sportcombi! It is quite nice so far. Avoid the 2.8L. Sweet interior, torque for miles, torque steer (it can't have only high points), and a very active community that will help you fix anything that breaks. Also, the back seats are pretty decent sized. DO IT!
There should be a few of these floating around with manuals in your neck of the woods. Hit me up if you have any real interest.

Glad you are alright. A good number of years ago, I had an insurance company call me after a wreck and ask leading questions to try and trap me into saying something that could be used as fault. Any phone calls you have WILL be recorded.
I kept responses to: "Your driver ran the stop sign and smashed into my car, demolishing it." And, "This is a basic traffic interaction, they must not have been paying attention or never should have been driving in the first place" and things of that nature.
Sorry for your loss jav. Glad to hear you are ok. BTW, Agents generally don't have anything to do with the liability investigation but perhaps you meant adjuster.
Also in reply to Brett, the only time I recorded anything it is made very clear such as "you understand this statement is being recorded?" Await response "and I have your permission to record this statement?"
$15,300+ in damage already. It's totalled

Totaled means no worries molesting it with a hacksaw and LS3, right?
Glad you are ok. You gotta love the other driver running a stop sign and them trying to say you are partially at fault. Shakes head

Yeah really, talk about BS. That seems like a pretty simple case of that lady screwed up, plain and simple. It's reasons like that my dad no longer wants to drive vehicles that aren't huge. twice in the last 10 years he was parked and got rammed by people hard enough that if he wasn't in a 5 ton box truck, he would've been in serious trouble. one of the accidents ripped front right corner clean off of the offender's buick (it was an old lady). How the hell do you miss a gigantic, stationary truck with red and blue signs all over it?
Was there a tree or something obscuring the sign from that lady's line of sight?

Ugh! Not a single 06-10 5 with an MT5 and moonroof in WA or OR!

My DVR-027 has been in use since last Spring, and working wonderfully. I don't leave it in the car overnight, but thats mainly due to theft worries.

Jav, Really sorry to see the end of the 5. Glad you're OK. Make sure you have your stack of receipts ready for the adjuster for all the work you've put into it over the last year or so.
Remember the insurance company's don't make money by "just paying out claims" One of the reasons why I have an agent. Yes they get a cut but they are on my side when it hits the fan. I would also some how document that the other agent or who ever they were trying to entice you in to admitting fault ESPECIALLY if it was less then 24 hours after the incident. that is entrapment on there part. probably not worth the time and effort but if it was here in MA I would have implied that you were looking into if there actions constituted any legal actions under MGL chapter 93a (deceptive business practice). I have used this before and it tends to put these scum bags back in line.
As for a new one shop nation wide and if the one that is a replacement has to be shipped so be it go after them for shipping and the cost of a PPI as well.

Ugh. Sorry to hear about all the troubles Jav. If you need me to check out any in the ATL craigslist - just let me know.
Those pics show the engineers did their job in keeping you safe.
Keep your head up and try and look at this as a new adventure (looking for the vehicle not the pain of dealing with insurance) we all hope the best for you!
Nothing worth checking out in Atlanta Matt. I'd be driving it if it was :D
for some reason everyone in this town drives automatics. my manual mazda (either 6 or 5) search has been goin on four a couple of months now. I have yet to look at a single car. My brother in Dallas is looking at a 6 for me tomorrow.
