But think of the potential you're missing:

That has never been my experience. Granted Subarus are not quite BMW/MB level in interior quality but then they are half (or maybe a third or quarter) the price of the Germans.
As far as the AWD being for sissies you might want to discuss that with Sebastien Loeb. 120 mph with trees or a cliff or houses a few feet on either side...................the WRC boys have just about the biggest pairs of any drivers out there!
Very nice. My buddy has one of those Subarus, the only thing that sucks is the passenger seat is like 4 inches lower than the driver .... Everytime I ride with him I feel like a 10 year old.

This is not a bad thing, in my book... the "new" 2.0L motor lacks about 25hp in comparison. The "old" motor is still basically the same platform that the 2002 WRX had. It's a big bore design that was built to accommodate boost. I have this same 2.5L in my 2009 Impreza and I'm glad I got one before the new tech took over (smaller bore, CVTs, and so on). It's a solid setup.
Nah - the Forester actually got a changeover in MY2012 to the FB engine which resulted in a different power band (same peak numbers), better fuel economy and a move to timing chain instead of timing belt. It's still 2.5L (unlike the Impreza whose FB20 is, you guessed it, 2.0L). I think this year's model is direct injected at least for the (twin scroll! finally!) turbo trim.
The current 2.0L Impreza (as well as the FB25 Forester as far as I know) is still port injected. Direct injection seems to be limited to turbo models and the BRZ (using a Toyota system) at the moment.
The easiest way to tell when popping the hood is to check if the oil filter is on top like all FA/FB engines or on the bottom like all EJ engines.
Check out Subaru's article they did to introduce the FB in 2011: http://drive2.subaru.com/Win11/itsWhatMakes.htm

The 14' that I have both seat bottoms are the same height.
Car has been pretty good so far. Only real nibble is that the driver seat has so much front lumbar support its actually painful over longer drives. Most people would not notice I imagine but I have two fused disks in my lower back from a motorcycle accident.
Going to pull the seats today and remove the lumbar balloon and maybe add a bit of foam to the top of the seat.

Thanks! Subaru has made a lot of different 2.5L, 170hp motors over the years. It's unfortunate that the Impreza missing out on the 2.5L this time around.
I have an Equinox with the 2.4L direct injection motor and I love the way it runs.
My wife wants a new '14 to replace her '09 Forester in a bad way, but she insists on the sunroof and I insist on a manual trans this time, particularly instead of a CVT, and apparently they are mutually exclusive.
My only hope is selling her on an aftermarket sunroof at this point. Otherwise off to look at MX-5s.
I hate that Subaru isn't offering a manual on the XT. I might very well buy a new one if they did.
Instead, I'll drive my current Forester XT until the wheels fall off, then I'll just put new wheels on and keep driving it.
