What rare, odd or unusual cars have you spotted out in the wild recently? Museums and large car shows don't count. I mean out on the road, or possibly racetrack, living as actual cars.
Today I saw a Mitsubishi Galant vr4 driving in the pouring rain on I-476 in PA.
I saw a Ferrari 599 GTO in downtown Monterey a few years ago, that's probably the rarest thing I've seen on the road in a while. Not much rolling around Jacksonville, NC that counts as rare.
Lancia Montecarlo/Scorpion in Estero, FL Nov. 10th. A few days before that, saw an Opel GT in traffic in Waukegan, IL. There's a guy down the street with a pretty new Maserati GT and another guy in town with a Lamborghini Espada that cruises around town on nice days.
Saw a nearly rust free orange late 70 Fiesta in a junkyard near Chicago. I wanted to rescue it so bad.
I passed a Ferrari 458 Italia and a F360 Modena parked next to each other. Both were parked by a 930...and a Miata.
In reply to jsquared: Keep in mind unicorns don't have to be exotic, just something that was never common sight. For example, over in the thread about building a $5k super SUV, someone mentioned the SAAB 9-4, less than 500 were made, and I've seen exactly 1, and I'm a SAAB fan, so I've looked for them. That's a good example of a Unicorn.
I think that some cars that were once somewhat common, and have now all disappeared do to attrition could count as unicorns too. For example, a lot of the less popular '70s Datsuns.
Ferrari's are common out here. Yesterday I saw a Black W8 4 Motion Passat Wagon with a stick in a parking lot.
FYI: If you are on Facebook, there's a group called V.I.S.I.T. that is pretty much this. It stands for Vehicles I Saw In Traffic, and caters to the weird and unusual stuff.
Otherwise, carry on.
Several years ago, on the way home from work, saw a real deal Porsche 904; part of Copperstate 1000. That little 4-banger rumbled like a hot rod V8. So wicked cool.
There's an Opel GT here in Middletown, OH that I'm pretty sure the guy daily drives. Saw a VW Bus on the road yesterday.
Saw a pretty Maserati Quatrodoor today going the other way. I like the look but the catastrophic costs of ownership make my Phaeton years look positively miserly.
Saw a Maverick Grabber and an MGB in traffic this morning at 7:30am while going to work.
It's December, and the temps warmed up into the 40s today with light rain.
Going to dinner Sunday night in Little Rock, a light-yellow E-Type Coupe idled past as we were crossing the street. It had an antique plate. It looked pristine. It was breathtaking. I said: "That is the iconic automobile of all time." And meant it.
I don't have the pics on my phone anymore but heres a couple from my Instagram account.
