...and I really, really wanted to buy it.
But I just couldn't pull the trigger.
It's a 1928 Model A Roadster Pickup. Henry built a lot of Model As, but not a lot of R-P'ups. In the course of my search for a Model A Tudor in which to drop our 8BA Flathead, I've decided that maybe I'd like one of these instead.
I knew that this car, uh...didn't present well... in the photos but I was still tempted by the idea of it, even as something to rebuild around, like George Washington's ax. I was also intrigued by the bed mounted tool box, which I had never seen before. There were actually two tool boxes but, unfortunately, they were about the only salvageable parts of the car.
The seller had recently dropped his price from $1500 to $1200, and was pushing the fact that it was essentially complete with an intact drive train. He admitted that the sheet metal was useless. Unfortunately, the drivetrain is what I don't need for this project. I drove up there in a snow storm with $500 in cash and a bill of sale in my pocket, but couldn't even make an offer. I'm an automotive optimist, but there was really nothing I could save.
