I enjoy autocrossing and have a grandson who is 11.  He has been greatly influenced by me, and is unusual in that he is a young man strongly interested in cars.  I am pretty sure I can pick up a cart on the cheap, which hopefully would not turn out to be expensive.  I think I have seen it done with little trailers for tires, but how would it be towing a cart?  Would all be flatland California, not thinking about going to Stead with it.

My Miata tows a HF trailer with 120 lbs of tires, a tool box, aluminum jack, etc with zero problems. I have stiffer springs for autocross, and it is lowered, but it tows very well. I would think a kart would be fine unless you have tons of gear to go with it.

Red GT and I used to see a guy who towed a pair of karts with an S2000.  I'm sure one kart behind a Miata will be fine.

I don't have Miata experience but I towed my kart with a Chevette.

I have a hitch on my Miata (for a tire trailer) but when people ask me, "what do you tow with that small car?"  I always answer, "THE SNOW MOBILES"  This always brings some surprise because the Miata could handle the load but how would it do with the load and the terrain.

Edit:  Look what the googles found:

Absolutely it's possible.  I towed my son's kart on a HF 4x4 trailer for quite a while.  Upgraded to the 10" tires and had no issues on our 75 MPH roads here in south Texas.  I ended up welding together a small box frame with angle iron (bolted to the corners of the trailer) and storing the rest of the kart stuff underneath.

I thought I was impressive towing with a Fiat 500T, until this guy showed up towing his kart with a first generation Insight....

The miata is the best tow vehicle out there! I towed this trailer for years, covering thousands of miles, through the mountains of GA, NC, and TN without any trouble. You get some strange looks while hauling ass (and gear) along the Dragon's Tail.

They do feel more stable at speed with a "drogue chute" on the back, don't they?

I see miatas towing trailers to autox events all the time... Pretty loaded up sometimes too. I'd imagine a kart would be fine?

No one's suggested beefing up the HF trailer tongue yet?

I towed my kart with much lesser cars than have been mentioned.

BFH, that trailer is the cat's ass.    I guess it is trailer of put a roll bar on it to support the back of the cart.

Guess I better start cart shopping.  Does SCCA have family memberships?  I guess I could get him an individual one, then he could make the 50 year membership thing easy.

I raced karts in the early 90's and towed a small box trailer with the kart and everything for the weekend behind an Integra. I didn't feel like towing all the way to Daytona from Baltimore, so I threw the kart on the roofrack. Lots of thumbs-up, and no problems. And then, like an idiot, I had to have a real race car...

Miata tow hitches probably cost like what, $125?  I think you should save yourself that money, and use the cart to tow the Miata instead.

I just installed the version 2 Flyin' Miata hitch on my 97 Miata. Installation was one of the simplest aftermarket installs I have ever done. Highly recommended in that department. I haven't gotten around to towing my kayak trailer yet.

I had hitches on both of my Miatas (Miatae?) for a bike rack.  One thing I noticed right away was how much tighter and solid the rear end felt.  Wealso ended up towing the HF 4x4 trailer with our camping gear when we went to the F1 races at Indy... probably 400 plus pounds for the trailer, gear and cooler.
