In case you missed it, Toyota Canada will only be receiving 9 GR Corolla Morizo Edition, so they decided to ask people for applications to be able to buy them. You'll have to prove that you are a Canadian car influencer if you want to buy one....
This article explains it better then I could.
My desire for it has just greatly dropped.

And they pissed off more people doing it that way then if they just let the dealers sell them properly.
I am still pissed at Ford over this and how they sold the R mustangs.

Canada tends to get very low numbers of performance cars. The e36 m3 in Canada got the euro s50 engine but import numbers were in the single digits each year.
Mixed emotions... I see that the author is Thomas, our own G-BodyMan who grew up here on the GRM forum, now writing elsewhere out of Canada. Does this make him a Canadian influencer? Does this make him influential enough? I hope he can get one...if he wants.
Is Lesley, the GRM'er of past who's presence I have not seen here in a long time, still out there writing automotive in Canada?
EDIT: it seems she's still writing and putting thing out as recent as 9 days ago on topics we like such as 2024 Mustang and Ford Marverick XL
As long as the Morizo isn't a one year only trim level, I have no issue with this being the case for the initial year, with two asterisk.
That the following year they produce more based upon deposits being taken. And two being absolutely no dealer markup. These cars are halo cars and promote the brand and it's capabilities, they're not for venders to mark up 40-50k to find the sucker who was just born.
I'm pretty sure for the roughly $15k difference in price, I could make a Core faster than a Morizo with money to spare. Most track enthusiasts aren't scared of a few mods, so in that way, the Morizo doesn't make a lot of sense. I'm going with the base core, if the dealer can actually get me one (I reserved the day before the reveal, after it was leaked).

They imported 45 euro specs M3s to Canada in 1994. Certainly not single digits, but not a lot either.
I believe 43 were pre-sold and they ordered 2 extra ones.

They were IIRC the equivalent of gray market. That door was slammed shut when BMW officially started importing them in 1995, not with the Euro engine.
One of the 94s showed up for sale locally for $20k a few years ago. Very tempting!

They were imported by BMW Canada using Norwegian certification, which was legal in Canada for low volume import cars. The Canadian specs also have the VIN on the A-pillar instead of the dash.
If you had the opportunity to buy one of the 45 for $20k and did not do it, you are a moron lol ... never seen one that cheap.

Plus, it was in the US, which means it was here on dubious legality. One can import a vehicle from Canada to the US if you can prove with dead trees that it met US regulations for that model year. I did not wish to make that gamble.

The whole notion of the "influencer" thing, well beyond this particular situation, just royally irritates me. I guess I am just a grouchy old man at this point.
So you have to be an influential web person , and have $$$$$ to buy it ,
Will they put restrictions on reselling it , or other things like not modifying it for X number of years ?
What is Toyota USA going to do ?

Maybe all men are CREATED equal, but the ones who met whatever criteria between birth and Vette were given first dibs on '53 Corvettes.

I'm not sure those exact words apply to Canadians either.
I was never going to buy one anyway (cheap & cheaper).
Even if I were looking to buy I'm so counter culture that if I need anything more then the cash to buy I instantly recoil from it. I don't care whether it's a house, a membership, or a car.
