I am taking the train to Chicago tomorrow to pick up a XJR-6. I want to take along a tool kit to assist with any road side repairs. Hope not but better to plan.
I think that Jaguar was full metric by this point. I have a compact metric 1/4 drive set of sockets. Also a cresent wrench, some pliers, and a couple of screw drivers (probably sorry ones to avoid angering security).
Anything else I should take along? It has to be allowed on an Amtrak so no knife.

Edited for list
- Code reader
- Metric socket set
- Cresent wrench
- Pliers (needle and regular)
- Rags
- extra cloths
- Funnel
- tire gauge
- Leatherman
- Silicon tape (Purchased)
- Volt meter
- AAA card (maybe...)
- 21mm lugnuts
Does a jag that new still need the occasional hit of magic Lucas smoke to stay running?
I'd probably bring tire pressure gauge, a funnel, rags, and a change of clothes, just so I wouldn't have to buy something I already have if I needed it.
Does it have wheel locks? If it does and you have removal tools I would take them along too.
We took Amtrak Ann Arbor to Chicago and then Chicago to Denver a month ago. There was no security check whatsoever. Felt weird after so many years of airport security.

I have never been and was reviewing their site for prohibited items. No security?

Fortunately, no, it doesn't. Just a sacrifice to Ford and fluids for what's probably one of the best engines Jag built.
A roll of that magic sealing tape, I forget what it is called.

I asked about wheel locks

Flex tape?
F4 tape, or self-fusing silicone tape.
I'd bring a code reader, a Leatherman and a AAA card.
In reply to Keith Tanner :
Thats it.
Good stuff gang. I purchased some F4 tape at lunch

Nope. Got on trains 4 times over the round trip, and there was no security inspection of any kind. It was like getting on a city bus at a bus stop.

I'd bring a leatherman or 2, tape, zip ties, code reader, cell phone and credit card, and then a list of HF locations. I might also figure out what are the common sizes, and bring sockets and wrenches for those. For example, I have a small toolkit I bring on trips in the Miata, and it has 10, 14, 17, and 19mm sockets and wrenches (what the hell is the 19 for? I put it in there for some reason).
Are you coming into Union, or just Summit? If Union, and you have time, head across the street to Lou Mitchell's. The unofficial start of Route 66.
19mm is for lugs
Re:JeffHarbert
Thanks for that... mind was absolutely farting at getting the right word for that
other thought: possibly one of those jump-pack lithium ion packs that can charge your phone too... that way you've got a backup if you can't get juice into the phone for the trip home (and smaller than jumper cables)
I am coming into Union but at 10pm. A friend is getting me at the station.
Another +1 for AAA with tons of coverage.
What I carry with me in the car at all times (and usually use far more often on non automotive stuff around the house because the trunk is closer than the barn where the primary toolbox is):
Metric and Standard combination wrenches...cheap ones
Hammer
One of those 6-way screwdrivers (two sizes of each phillips and straight and 1/4" and 5/16" nut driver...think hose clamps!)
Pliers
Diagonal cutters
a good utility knife
a few fee of bailing wire
Electrical tape
Duct Tape
That's what I can remember. You might also want to throw in a few zip ties and of course your socket set won't hurt. I don't travel around with a socket set everyday...but for this particular trip I'd bolster my setup a bit). I'd throw in a good pry-bar and the volt-meter that was suggested.
Keep in mind, you'll be traveling on major interstates. You'll be able to find just about anything you need at the next travel plaza.
