Tremec just released a new 5-speed to replace the TKO500/600;  The TKX.  Slimmer, 8000rpm capacity, and 600ft.lb capacity all for sub $3k.

I. Want!

I don't have $3k for a new trans right now but this is definitely going in the "Hopefully Mid-term Plan" list for the mustang to replace the T5.

A quick googling did not reveal available ratios. Im curious on that, otherwise this seems pretty awesome.

SEMA show is on now, so it makes sense that this is related. I can't find the press release yet.

Looks like it may be considerably lighter than the T56

Hope it still shifts like a T5, not like a T56.

That's a chunk of money, but seems to be in line with, well, what a transmission costs. And an updated and stronger trans close to the weight and packaging of a T5 is freaking awesome!

...actually watches video...

Excellent! Even more compact and adaptable than the existing options!

I'm not familiar with shift ratings in RPM, but hopefully that 8k generally indicates positives for shift quality/ease/synchros/etc...

In reply to Vigo (Forum Supporter) :

The ratios are listed on the American Powertrain website.  There looks to be three different options.

*Edit*  What they have listed is slightly different from what Keith posted.  I'm not sure where his info came from but this chart is from American Powertrain.

Under $3000 puts it in t56 price range.  Hmmmm!

Too bad it hangs a few of us T5 bell pattern available motors out to dry unless you want to spend 2k for ti.

I have more than that sunk into my T56, and I can't go anywhere near 600 lb-ft.

Some generic hotrodding site. I would prefer to get it straight from a Tremec press release but I didn't find one.

The video is from American Powertrain and it has the ratios listed for close ratio and wide ratio versions.

They also say it will fit in GM A-body cars (Chevelles, GTOs, etc.) without having the cut the transmission tunnel.  That's going to be a big deal for the muscle car guys.

Is that steel or aluminum? The steel one is stronger,  the aluminum one is a chinese copy and not nearly as strong.  Not much stronger than the stock stamped steel plate.
