Was wondering if anyone had experience of fitting a Tremec TKX gearbox in an NA miata trans tunnel as part of an LS swap?
Where does the shifter land? ( I know there are two options)
I am not a fan of hydraulic throwout bearings, but is there a choice?
Best place to buy the whole kaboodle?
Pete
Coincidentally some TKX-on-LS measurements came up on turbobricks (https://turbobricks.com/index.php?threads/1993-classic-wagon-l33-tkx-fueltech.371505/#post-6369777): the shifter supposedly comes up in the same place as a T5 (not sure which of the positions, though), at 25.5" from bellhousing face to center of shift hole.
This is relevant to my interests, subscribed.
The hydraulic throwout they sell through Holley works pretty good--most problems people seem to have result from improper shim spacing/overextension. I don't even remember what brand it is, but I have a track day and about 200 miles on it with no leaks or disappointments so far . . .
As the shifter position goes, you should probably be fine in a Miata; the rear-most is still not real far back, because the trans is pretty small.

Was mostly concerned with the space in the tunnel. I have a T5 in there behind the 302 and ws wondering if maybe by accident the L33 that got rebuilt and is sitting around unemployed might somehow end up replacing the 302.
Tried to find a way to use the Ford T5z behind the LS but it does not seem to be a thing. By the time I found a GM T5 and had it rebuilt to handle the LS I might as well swallow hard and get the TKx
FYI, the F-body T56 that I use has the shifter 29.5" from the bellhousing and the shifter is dead center in the hole for the Miata. 25.5" is going to require a new hole and a Cobra-style bent shift lever to get the shifter back far enough. I almost used a T5 in my car and even cut the hole in the tunnel before coming to my senses.
The V8R Spec cars used a modified Ford T5 behind a modified L33. I don't know if more than one or two were built, but apparently the saving grace was that the L33 wasn't all that torquey and the Miata was light. I went with a T56 and never thought about transmission strength again.

I concluded a similar search several years ago by purchasing one of these Jeep bellhousing
Never used the part, so no further input beyond its existence.
