I am looking at a truck with a power lift gate, I have no need or want for the lift gate and would like to sell it but I am unsure on it's value. This is a model Thieman TT12, the gate works but will need a switch.

Not sure. I'd probably be willing to spend $250-$500 for one.

On a side note there is a running 84 F250 near me with a functioning liftgate for $900 and has been for sale for at least three weeks so apparently it's not worth a ton.

I think a lift gate is an opportunity to negotiate the purchase price DOWN. They don't add value to the truck.

Most people don't need one, and they are ugly. Plus, once you take it off, you still have to buy a tailgate.

People who do need one will usually invest in a new one or one that can be serviced easily by their local equipment vendor.

I'm with Greg- I'd top out at $500.

SvreX, the seller and I had almost the same conversation and he said no on else seems interested in the lift gate either, the truck is about $600 less than other like trucks in the area.

In reply to Donebrokeit:

Sounds like there is still some negotiating room...

If the price drops to $1000 less than others, and you sold the lift gate for $300, you'd be about $1000 ahead of the game (after buying a $300 JY tailgate)

A lift gate let's you do more though. They will pick up a lot. And less strain on the back. Ever haul engines ? It is a pain to dig out the hoist every time.

Quick Craigslist survey in my area showed people asking mostly between $300 and $1000 for them for what it's worth.

I personally like them for junkyard runs etc but they can be incoveinent at times.

Depends on your use for the truck. I can think of a bunch of times having one would have been useful but that's still like 5% of the time using the bed.

Craig,I can see where the gate could be useful but I plan to tow an enclosed trailer and this thing would just be dead weight.

SVreX, we are on the same page.
