Both have decent bodies and interior; one has a hole in the gas tank, one has a blown head gasket.

My buddy is a domestic car guy and doesn't know what to do with these but didn't want to pass them up. He wants the rearend out of one for the brakes. What to do with the rest?

Well.......

1.) Sell it to me for almost nothing and pack a bag for Gainnesville next fall.

2,) Give the remnants to me as scrap metal and I will sing your praises from the mountain tops.

3.) This is me: http://www.oddballkustoms.com/?category_name=jag-t

It's kind of a fat chick for rallye, Auto-X or road racing. Too British to be practical, and not pretty enough to be a babe magnet.

Any thoughts?

Yeah, really digging the ragingly homophobic stickers on the helmet... 9_9

As for the OP:

1) Take the tank from the Jag with the blown head gasket and swap it into the other.
2) Sell the running one.
3) Part out the other.
4) ?
5) Profit!

IIRC, the biggest problems with these cars was the Lucas electrics (big surorise there!) and the engine. This is why thay are such a wonderful subject for a SBC swap. Thousands have been done, info is out there, and even I have thought about doing it. Nice luxo- cruisers, with GM dependability and power, all goodness.

I've really never understood the Chevy V8 in a Jaguar thing. I think the twin cam straight sixes are incredible engines. Smooth, powerful, great noise.

In my opinion, it's the rest of the car that sucks. Novacaine-numb steering, soft and squishy suspension, terrible electrics, rust that's only rivaled by Italian cars' rot, et al.

I love the older Jags (pre-1969 or so) and think they were the original sports sedan. I think they lost the plot, however, when they decided to stop building sedans with sporting pretensions and go chase after Mercedes in the 1970's.

I close friend of mine has a 1961 Mark II sedan with a manual transmission and the "D-type" carbs on his (original) straight-6. The car is a blast to drive!
