Do people actually buy these things?
At first glance, I saw the cone filter... thought "they have some controversy about them, but not enough for its on thread..." then I looked closer!
When I was a kid, starting to learn about cars, and electricity (in the early70's) I had that thought. Then I realized all the negatives.

I found this video from Cleetus on youtube. Spoiler alert: It doesn't go well.

Hot Rod and Roadkill have a nice history of using leaf blowers to overcome the typical loss of VE that comes with higher RPMs

Actually, Cleetus tested several of them. There was one that came with its own battery pack and cost several thousand dollars. That one actually worked although it would only run long enough for doing a 1/4 mile pass before having to recharge the battery. Here is the video of it on the dyno.
I remember someone tried it on a V6 Contour in the early 2000s and it showed about a 5 hp gain, but it had bigger wires than the one in the pic above. It also fell off while driving down the highway a few days after it was installed and the owner didn't think it was worth replacing (I think it was about $700 for the kit back then).
