A couple of years ago, I bought a set of Hawk brake pads from Tire Rack for the front of my 2005 Tacoma. I don't use the truck much so they don't have many miles on them, but they squeak. I took them apart for a clean and lube but found that one of the shims had rusted through. I called Tire Rack to see if I can buy replacement shims, but they said no. Is there any place to get universal shims? My Google-Fu is failing me.

can you contact Hawk themselves ... as opposed to a vendor ?

Buy another set of pads? $12 on rockauto.com seems like it's not even worth screwing with "universal" parts.

I did a quick search on Rockauto. For my 91 Cherokee, it shows pad shims and anti-rattle clips. I don't know if your Tacoma uses these but parts were $3 and cheaper.

Edit: I looked up your Taco; do the shims look like this?

In reply to stanger_missle:

Those are usually marked as anti-rattle clips or hardware.

Shims are like this:CE115.00096

That's not a bad idea, but the ones for my truck are a bit more expensive than that. It seems as if they're all a little different. I need clip-on ones as I'm sure that adhesive ones won't stick to the old pads. Mine look something like this:

I traced one before I reinstalled it. Maybe I'll bring the drawing to Advance Auto and see what they have.
