The Ultimate Track Car Challenge is getting really close, so we're taking the wraps off the Trophies for 2011.
If you hadn't been paying attention, you might have missed the part where there are no classes in the UTCC, but in our minds it's kinda been that way all along. Instead of the 4-class arrangement that we had been using to share some trophy love with the field, we're adding a large handful of individual trophies for different categories.
Pirelli Ultimate Track Car Challenge Cup (Fastest overall time, no excuses.)
BimmerWorld Fastest BMW
eBay Motors Quick-Kit (fastest component car)
eBay Motors Boost Master (fastest pressurized car)
eBay Motors V8 Thunder Award (fastest V8)
eBay Motors Dean of the Old-School (fastest carbureted car)
Race-Keeper DMV Destroyer (fastest car with a valid license plate)
APR Winged Wonder (fastest car with aftermarket aerodynamic elements)
Fastest Honda/Acura
Fastest GM
Fastest Ford
Fastest Mopar
Fastest Mazda
Fastest Mitsubishi
Fastest Porsche
Fastest Subaru
Front-Wheel Drive Phenom (fastest FWD)
Rear-Wheel Drive Ripper (fastest RWD)
Traction Master (fastest AWD)
Furious Four (fastest naturally aspirated 4-cyl.)
Heavyweight Champion (fastest car over 3000 pounds, weighed without driver)
Whoa Wonder (fastest car utilizing stock brake calipers/rotors)
Track Terror (fastest purpose-built racing car)
Master Electrician (fastest electric or hybrid)
I'm pretty excited about the new format, and I expect it to do a better job of rewarding the different definitions of "Ultimate" track car out there.
We're expecting some heavy hitters but the reigning champ, Glenn Bunch's monster Hemi Challenger, is not going to be there. This leaves the Cup up for grabs—anybody care to make a prediction and/or talk smack about their entry?

I'm not coming until you have a Fastest AMC Award.
Okay, now that I'm done joking (although a Fastest Orphan could be cool: Olds, Pontiac, AMC, Plymouth, Mercury) I really like the new format. The various awards are well thought out and should make for some interesting "classes".

That sounds AWESOME. not going but this sounds much easier and more fun to read about.
Will be there to get them on and off track safely. Nice to see more trophies this year.
Bummed I didn't put this on the schedule this year. Last year - on the schedule, car done blowed up. This year - car fine, schedule slammed.

That is a bummer you can't make it Dave. Not only is the event a ton of fun (complete with Cobetto's wake-up singing), but after all the UTCC-ness we have an informal go-kart endurance throwdown. It kicks ass!
Pencil me in for next year...
How do we sponsor the Fastest Porsche award?
Could I show up in person to deliver it to the winner?
So the most awards you can get would be 10?
If you were able to build a car that is.....
Boosted, V8/I4, Carbed, Licensed, Winged, FWD/RWD/AWD, over 3k #'s, Stock Brakes, and the Overall time winner from either a BMW, Honda/Acura, GM, Ford, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Porsche, or Subaru.
Who will accept the challenge, and what will you be doing it in?
I like it!!!
But it does sound like XBOX achievements
Sigh . . . another event I'll miss this year . . .

Contact Per. He can help you with that.
No award for best crapcan? It would be nice to see a budget class award.
You need an award for the fastest blonde haired, blue eyed fox. That'll get them out!!
I think GRM addressed why there is no crapcan class somewhere else... something like there is a much higher likelihood of death if a crapcan collides with one of the octuple-turbocharged Vipers this event attracts?

Yeah, something about budget constraints and old master cylinders...
What is meant by the 'Quick-Kit' award for "fastest component car"?
Is it just me or is it just about impossible for the overall champion to win less than 4 trophies?
The fastest car will win (for sure) the overall trophy and fastest purpose-built racecar and, unless they bring a Unimog it's gonna win fastest RWD or AWD as well. It's also almost certainly going to win fasted boosted or fastest V8 unless it's a viper (V10).
As Thinker said, they could even leave with 10 trophies or almost 50% of the available awards.
That means 17% of the trophies go to the overall winner almost by default - kinda lame. Is there some restriction that each competitor only leaves with one trophy?

NO! What is this T-ball for 12 year olds? "We want everyone to feel good about themselves, so we won't keep score!"
Racer - What was my best time?
GRM Staff - Happy minutes and love seconds!
Racer - This event is bullE36 M3!
Haha, I'm just surprised that the sponsors want to give so many trophies to the same person.
Fair enough though, they will have certainly earned it. I guess it's just a super-duper 1st place win.
Well, it would be the "Ultimate Track Car" then now wouldn't it? Kinda deserving of a lot of accolades if you ask me.
Anyways, I really do seriously think there should be a "Fastest Orphan" for the fastest non-tube-framed car by a defunct manufacturer (AMC, Hudson, Hummer , Mercury, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Rambler, Saturn, Studebaker, Triumph, TVR, etc.)
Would you need a sponsor for it first?

I think we'd need a notable quantity of entrants for it. Looking at the (secret) entry list, it's a non-issue. Of course, it's not really my decision either.
Also, I'm not sure Pontiac or Oldsmobile would really qualify yet.
We're adding Fastest Mopar to the list as well.
We may well adjust the list from year to year, but I think we came up with a pretty cool selection of trophies to recognize achievements throughout the field and give competitors something to gun for no matter where they are in the pack. We'll certainly consider things like an orphan trophy or a low-buck award, but we do want to keep it easy to regulate; we're not gathering receipts on the cars at the Ultimate Track Car Challenge like we do at the $2K Challenge.
Yes, several cars will come away with several awards, but coming out on top of the pack in this event is a big deal. A number of these awards have serious prizes attached, so winning could result in a substantial contingency haul. For example, the quickest BMW will get $500 in credit from BimmerWorld, and our overall winner gets a full set of Pirelli tires from title sponsor Pirelli.
This event continues to grow, the quality of cars is pretty amazing, and I just love seeing all the ways that people can go fast.
Fastest Brit?
I am hoping to be there next year with the Triumph.
I'm hoping to see a Pull-a-Part 50% off discount for fastest junkyard car, personally
