I initially wanted to view the cluster through the wheel, but the wierd master cylinder actually split the vw cluster, and moving it isnt a bag of snakes I want to reach into. so, the cluster may mount to the right of the brake master. like the little square flat top car--xbox.

At that point, why not a fullsize conversion van? More head room, and no canvas tent on top?

Great progress! I saw very few Vanagons in my VW daze and didn't realize the booster/MC were where they are. Good ol' German engineering.

Maybe I'm showing my dain bramage, but I just had a thought about using a Subaru SVX engine and transaxle. It would keep the floor lower- I think.

that svx is a beast of an engine--I had considered it and the newer llbean outback motor-- the ez3.0d flat six as well, but the triscuit-sized parcel they require is wider than the 23" ihad between the suspension pin points, so a 4 link would need inventing, and I didnt want to do it. the v6 wedges within the arms without disturbing them. the svx is a longer engine too. It can be done..

My skilsaw is instrumental in the trimming of both plastic and steel-I cut sheet metal with it too in short order. a simple deburring follows and stuff gets welded together, that is if I dont get rained on.

this isnt much like my drawing, but it's working anyway--fit #6 the storage tray on top the guages look a little robbie robot, but it cant be helped. I started reluctantly this morning, like a fat kid that didnt wanna get outta bed--but I started playing with it without expectations and got this done. not bad for not knowing what I would do next....

an extra shifter cable allows me to get the ends below the floor for a strait connection. there are so many specific ends and mounting devices on these cables that I am leaning towards 3 pieces [1 for trans ,1 for shifter and 1 for the connect]--the third will need clevises with pins and anchor points with restraint mounts. shouldnt be too dodgey. I also recieved 4 mbz ronal 7.5x16x et46mm forged wheels from a friend yesterday.

with the shifter pedestal happening tomorrow, I look ahead to the fuel tank mods--primarily the pump addition, the extra capacity to 18 gallons and the A.N. fittings. I'll go back to the jy for a sedan set of hard fuel and brake lines--they are sure to be long enough--longer than napa ap's.

MAN!!! I don't get to the 'puter for a few weeks, and see what happens! This is a seriously cool project and you're making decent progress. I really like this! And yes, you are in the right forum...we don't shout down much of any kind of swap. Though, we may just question sanity from time to time...
