My old Birel/Honda RS125 shifter would do 110+ and run out of gear on the front straight at Summit Point. The 250cc karts would supposedly do 140 there. I believe it as they would go past me like I was tied to a tree. It's crazy just how fast a 250 shifter kart goes!!!!!!

Wow, that is way slower than I was expecting.
It sounds like they're short shifting in the lower gears instead of winding it out.
If you've never had the opportunity to drive a shifter kart, you should put it on your "bucket list".
