After a four year build, with much time spent acquiring body, suspension, brakes, drivetrain etc at bargain prices, we finally got the car completed and on the track this summer.  A couple of abbreviated weekends with CFR SCCA at Sebring pointed out some new car issues.  Rain cut short our number of laps.

At Daytona last month we learned some more ie:  The body need some more bracing and the aero sucked at 175 plus mph. We also had some clutch/tranny issues that could not be fully resolved at the track.  We braced the body with some Home Depot aluminum and lowered the car another 1/2 inch or so and fill up a couple holes in the nose (underneath).

The last race went fairly well,  Lee Arnold our driver elected to start in the back due to the clutch and tranny issue.  He drove through to finish fifth overall and second in SPO to Todd Coury's Hendrick road race NASCAR Xfinity type Chevy.

Our Corvette is powered by a vintage type 327 making a bit over 500 HP and can turn 8000 rpm when necessary.  It hit nearly 180 mph in the tri oval.

Despite the troublesome clutch, which got worse as the race progressed, Lee still cut a decent 2:02 lap on a near 100 degree day at the track.  We used Pirelli Trans Am 2 rubber which seemed pretty decent.  We feel with some more sorting and a cooler day, the car is at least a 1:58 car at Daytona.

Well done!   I did something similar in my youth. Took an old ( then ) 1964 I updated the drum brakes to disk, built a 350 with another racer’s cast offs  and went SCCA racing.
