The Radical is built for the track, with several variations that offer a lot of speed for the dollar.

Ryan Lewis, driver coach for Radical Indianapolis, explained what they are, how they drive and which one is right for you.

Good video.  He talked about the 1340cc SR3, the 1560cc SR3, and the SR10- but he overlooked the most Grassroots of all the Radicals, the SR1. Roughly 2/3 the price of the cheapest SR3, runs treaded tires that last (at least) twice as long as the SR3 slicks, and can go 2-3 times as long between motor rebuilds. Still faster than just about every street car, with a little over 6lb/hp, 3.5sec to 60mph, and 1.8-2.0g in the corners. I've been campaigning one for over a year and it has been great.

This looks like a very tasty option, but I am still at a point where (my desire) for hillclimb events would necessitate trailering a Radical or just driving the 240Z to an event.  With the Z not being too radical (get it?) I could reliably drive it to the venue, 'race' it, and drive home without breaking anything, or at least that is the plan.  If I end up buying a truck by the end of the year, my plans may change, but then there are too many vehicles (can you ever have too many?) and a trailer which I will need to store outside of this neighborhood I live in.  Oh well, first world problems are annoying, but what awesome problems to have in light of poverty and hardship for many others.  Keeping my perspective for 2025 and beyond.

Oh yeah, some of the prices for used models aren't too far out of reach.

But if I win the lottery, the RXC Spyder looks like a stupid amount of fun.

I know the sr10 is faster, but man the idea of a ford ecotech engine just seems so unsexy. Does it wind out as high as the bike engines after they are done with it?

Even the SR1 and SR3 are kinda bananas.  The light weight, open cockpit and downforce/grip are an assault on the senses for someone coming over from door-slammers.  I haven't been in an RXC but I'd imagine that driving one would be fairly hairy without prior experience in downforce cars.

SR10 has a 7k redline, where the SR1 and SR3 are around 10k.  SR10 is a totally different driving experience because they make torque everywhere, while the SR1 and SR3 are mostly driven at 6-10k RPM.  SR1 and SR3 are pretty similar in speed, depending on the track it can be a 2-5 second difference in lap times mainly due to top speed.  On a twisty track a good driver in an SR1 can catch a lesser driver in an SR3.  The SR10 is a whole different animal... it's hard to explain how brutally fast they really are.  I've not driven one but I've been on the track in my SR1 when the SR10 is running and it's in a whole different league.

They are a blast.

As for something like an SR10; there is no road car that will compare to something like this.  I know that at Spring Mtn Motorsports the SR10s are carrying 5-10mph more in corners than something like a 911 GT3 RS.
