I have been reading that this is a common problem -- the climate control module burning out, leaving you with non-working HVAC system in the Volvo 850's. Sunday I was heading out when I smell a strong burning electronics smell, then no blower or AC. I was lucky enough to find another module at the pick and pull, but I did want to see what the deal was inside of mine. I also wanted to see if I could fix it. So, I order some new capacitors. When they get in, will see if I can replace the burned ones. Here is a 60 second video that shows which capacitors burned out. It might be helpful to others when dealing with this Volvo issue.
