So I'm looking at an "upgrade" to the silver Explorer ST. There has been a recall issued for the single rear bolt rear axles due to "fracture of the bolt and subsequent loss of control". Depending on who you talk to, the failing bolt is TTY, even tho the bolt head says it's a 10.9 graded bolt. Now, I do at least have the "upgraded" 2 bolt rear, but just given the others propensity, I feel like I should do something now.
Now the point of this post is that someone sells a kit addressing this but for $30 plus the ship, uhhhhh, no. Its a 12.9 grade socket head in the proper m14 size with two seperate washers, one is a large fender style and the other is the plain old split lock. It's hokey. Its old school. It looks like something I'd put together out of my bolt bucket.

So, that brings me to this point, the oe bolt has an intergal washer and then a secondary washer to hold the bolt through the rubber bushing. I can buy a non oe bolt in the same grade or basically copy an available "kit". If I copy, I was going to use a nordlock but I'd need a washer between the nordlock and bolt head. I searched and even nordlock kind of says no washer but only between the lock and solid piece. I looked at the GRM article and it's not conclusive either. Is this a possible combination?

Thanks.

FYI- the larger oe washer is 1.5" and the oe bolt washer is 1.09". I can get a nordlock style from McMaster in 1.2" diameter.

I am not familiar with that recall or what it includes.  I am somewhat curious about what you are mentioning, but i am not curious enough to go search for it.

That being said, Ranger 50 what are you talking about?

Even though Ford claims its "fixed", that doesn't mean it is fixed.
