Car is a 2002 CR-V 5-speed. Recently I started having a vibration on acceleration and though I was thinking front CV axle, the CR-V forums were quite certain that it's the propeller shaft, with many videos and descriptions matching my issue, so I ordered a new one thinking at least it will have new, replaceable u-joints on it (oem joints are staked. yuck)
Well, it turned out to be the CV axle indeed, but the new driveshaft has been giving me some strange vibrations that are RPM dependant, with a slight scraping noise that seems to be speed-dependent. at 2k and 4k rpm, the entire car will resonate in any gear and any speed, while the speed-dependent sound starts above 20mph. I have greased the new u-joints and undone and re-torqued all bolts, and even rotated the prop shaft 4 times to clock it differently between the transfer and rear diff to no avail. Drove the car with the old shaft and no shaft and neither produced this result so I'm certain that it's the new part.
I really don't want to ship this thing back, and I know that I'll probably need new U-joints as soon as I do, so I'd like to try and figure out what it might be. Has anyone ever experienced something like this with a driveshaft?
