That thing is nasty. I don't think I saw it at the shootout last year. Couldn't make it this year because of work, was pretty bummed.
The reason was around Rally rules for the time IIRC. They were trying to keep it Group N legal. I'm a little rusty on my Rally/Evo knowledge but I think that is why they were all 4 doors. They put the VTEC challenging MIVEC motors in the 3 door hatchs. They even had a race series for then in Asia. Sad thing is though they never came to the US.
I still want one of those mivec engines to put in a mirage hatch over here.
Or maybe that 2 liter v6.
