About time for an update on this...
Engine done, painted and reassembled. After we got it painted it looked so nice I couldn't put it back in the filthy engine compartment. Many, many hours of cleaning later I decided just cleaning wasn't going to fly. I pulled all the wiring, tranny lines, brake system and steering components and prepped primed and painted the engine compartment. I also took the time to sand, prep and paint all the removed components, brackets, lines, etc.
After much work it is all back together and we fired her up last night. Nothing sounds better than straight headers at 10 PM!
I need to pick a few final things (vacuum caps, new fusible link, etc.) to hopefully wrap up the engine tonight. We still need to change the exhaust pipe ends that attach to the collectors as the new headers have a different connector.
While we were doing all the prep work we took a hard look at the main tank and decided it had to go. There had been a fair amount of red/brown particles in the fuel filter and it has had a minor leak for some time. New (larger) tank is in the box just waiting to be installed. The aux tank was removed some time ago (major leaks) so we're currently running off a 2 gal tank plumbed into the aux tank line.
Picts and video soon.

I have a spare aux tank if you want it.
Thank you. I actually have an oversized steel aux tank to install. Just haven't done it yet.

Think i have a undented used stock tank. Is your Aux tank one of the side mount units?
Yes, aux tank is the side unit. The metal one I have (11 gal I think) I bought a while ago on eBay.
My new main tank is a 23 gal unit which can be easily modified to run an EFI setup (in tank pump) if required.
back from the dead. I just picked this up last week for $700. Pictures make it look better than it really is. Using it off road only so I really don't care. 302 V8 with Edelbrock intake and carb.Sold the front bumper and door inserts

Nice score. Every part is available to patch it up if the inclination ever strikes - on the cheapskate side - it's mostly flat panels and square edges - a spare filing cabinet, hammer and welder could fix it anything under the skin. Converting the transfer case to twin sticks adds some versatility and capability for off road. Disc brake conversions are cheap and easy too (pre-1975 chevy blazer/1/2 ton 4x4 backing plates and spindles bolt on to the ford dana 44.
