He doesn't seem to be too worried about snow traction or he wouldn't be considering ditching the AWD... and honestly, given the last 10 winters here in PA, it's been mostly a non-issue.  Of course, the one winter he does ditch AWD and we're probably all screwed :D

I'll see what else I can find and send his way.  Fortunately we have a little time to shop.  His husband is recovering from surgery and won't be driving for a few weeks, so he has use of the extra Malibu in the driveway.

I can vouch for the Vue. I've had two friends and one family member that had them, and two of them made it to 200k+ easily with basic maintenance (the third was rear ended and totaled a couple years after my aunt and uncle bought it). I would honestly recommend a CRV or Highlander before the Vue, but it is a pretty good choice as well.
