What car I have no idea edition

1st or 2nd gen CR-V or Rav4. Comfortable, roomy, can tow a couple small jet skis (I would guess), great for bumpy roads, cheap, easy on gas, 2wd or AWD, back seats fold down flat for filling with whatever you want, auto or manual, etc.

If you have a 40K budget. Skip the forester. It's a tonka toy car. Yes I have one.

I pulled my jetskis with an integra so towing 2 is no issue for just about anything out there. .

My vote. nothing beats an M5 if you are talking mildly rough roads. If you need the ground clearance, get something that can go anywhere...land cruiser.

Roads in southern Louisiana aren't as bad as Detroit, but they aren't the usual southern quality either.

Pick up trucks and truck frame SUVs are very popular here for good reason.

The Raptor/pre-run truck is on my list of must own before death but I would go to jail, very quickly.

My X3 does well and nothing has creep-ed up in the maintenance category either.

I was thinking maybe a diesel VW, maybe even a Tiguan. Wifey wants a 4 dr Wrangler bad, maybe I will get her Rav4L (already suggested) and get her a Wrangler.

I would insert a masculinity joke about me driving a Rav4 but I have been married long enough to know she has my testis in her purse anyway.

No, no, no THAT'S a Unimog this is a 911. Of course I'm sure this is of no help to Flight Service's dilemma.

Our '06 AWD V6 Rav4 would fit the bill. It can tow 3500lbs, seat four very comfortably (the rear seat slides back for more legroom), and I get 23-24MPG in mixed, hilly driving. 28+ MPG on a highway trip is very common, as well. If it could be had with a 6spd manual, I'd be in love.

My wife used it as a DD for years, and then I inherited it when we bought her the Odyssey. It's not the best vehicle if image is important, but it is a very good appliance.

For anything with more than 2 seats and towing, the answer is ALWAYS Grand Cherokee. At $40K, I bet you could pick up a used SRT-8. Throw some all-seasons on it, good to go. I had OE 18" BFG's off a Camaro(245/55/18) on my '99 V8 WJ and that thing kicked all kinds of ass on rough roads. Chalk it up to the 4WD system. 4WD powerslides were fun in that thing in the dirt. If an SRT-8 is a no-go, the 5.7 Hemi guys are 90% as gnarly and 50% more capable off road. The newest gen ones are seriously nice, too.

Meh. I wouldn't touch a diesel one. They're cool and all, but I'd stick with a gas one. I wouldn't even consider a WK. The WK2's are just so much nicer, and will still pull a decent amount(not to mention get REALLY good mileage) with the Pentastar.

You can almost never do wrong with a Hemi, though. Just as long as the plate says "SWEEEET"

I had a I6 2wd Laredo as a loaner, dogged the crap out of that thing and still got 21 mpg. I was shocked.

I had a rental 2013 Grand Cherokee a few months ago and I have to admit it was a nice place to spend time. It was a V6 (I6?), but otherwise loaded with every conceivable option and AWD. I managed to eek the computer MPG into the low 20's.

When I see 911s from around year 2000 going for $24K with 56K miles, I start to think a 911 would be a perfect DD!
