For some reason this song popped in my head & I'd completely forgotten there was a car behind the band. I can't get a good enough view to tell what it is, but maybe one of you can? There are very brief shots of it throughout the vid

There's more than one car in the video but the one shown the longest is
Either rwd Toyota or Datsun.
1981 Datsun 210
1977 Corolla
The song was released 1981 or 1982. The Corolla door handle is silver so I'm going with Corolla.
In reply to John Welsh :
I woulda said 210, but I think you're right on the Corolla. There's a body line crease close to the rockers on the 210 that isn't on the Corolla and does not appear to be in the video.
I assume Pete means the sports racer looking thing behind the band when they're playing their instruments. I'm have no idea what it is though.

Yeah, sorry. I actually wasn't sure if it was different from the (what has now been identified as a) Corolla, or if something was just blocking the roof making it look like a roadster.
EDIT: I no longer think this, but leaving it here for reasons.
Re the sports car behind the band, I was gonna say Pantera based on quarter window and C pillar shape and position relative to rear wheel arch.
I take that back, not Pantera. The kick up below quarter window makes me think Challenger or 69-70 mustang
but the low roofline and other proportions don't jive with that unless it's an old funny car body. 71-73 fastback is close but the kick up under the window isn't as pronounced:

Yeah. To me, the car doesn't appear to have a roof. Looks like an open cockpit car, but so little of it is seen on camera, it's hard to tell.
It's a Corolla; the front fender on the 210 has an angled the trunk lense that isn't on the car in the video.
Love Romeo Void..........the record companies used to give Deborah Lyall crap about her weight.........douchebags.
In reply to Tom1200 :
Not the one driving around, the one in the background. Here's a photo. That's 100% a convertible.
In reply to Steve_Jones :
Ok, the black area I thought was quarter window is actually the convertible top well. But it appears the car doesn't actually have a top on it. Also, the door handle and lock cylinder are definitely GM. I feel like it's 68 Camaro but need to study it a bit more.
also, this song rules at 2x speed and super sucks at 1/4-speed.
In reply to AngryCorvair (Forum Supporter) :
It looks like a roadster to me too...not that I'm right.
The angled line would be the flat surface of the rear deck & the curved(ish) line would wrap from the passenger side, around behind the seats, and to the driver's side.
In reply to Pete Gossett (Forum Supporter) :
That's what I see, the curved line is the cockpit opening from rear of door to rear of door. No trunk lid installed, so looks like a disassembled project.
In reply to AngryCorvair (Forum Supporter) :
I was thinking '67 Camaro myself.
I had forgotten how... Rubenesque she was. And also how many '80s new wave bands had sax players in them.
In reply to Pete Gossett (Forum Supporter) :
I like it for the kickup on the quarter and the distance from door edge to wheel arch and the distance from convertible top well to wheel arch. It also kinda explains why we never see A-pillar and windshield: the car is simply not long enough for them to be visible in the shots we are given. I will accept Alfa until convinced otherwise.
In reply to Pete Gossett (Forum Supporter) :
Rear fender angle is different and there's a marker light rear corner on the video car. The rear wheel arch is almost to the top of the deck lid too.
Pinterest has pics of 1974 Golden Nugget Mustang Funny Car that looks similar based off of previous suggestions
I am also liking the Alfa based on there is no engine cover in the video and the hole looks about right for it.
Now that I could watch on a computer vs Ipad, I'd say Alfa like posted above. I still see a marker light, but based on this stripped one, there is something in that area.
I also think if this photo was taken a few steps to the right it would be a dead match
Guy was trying to figure it out in 2011 as well https://totallythatstupid.com/2011/12/19/i-might-like-you-better-if-i-knew-what-this-car-was/
