So, I got t-boned last Friday. My poor 01 Impreza RS will be missed. But, I see this on Craigslist:

I'm definitely going to look at it. Question is what should I be looking for as potential problems?
That Swank now sees it, picks it up and does the KLZE swap into it.
Seriously, I'd be driving there to get it now. Do a rust check around strut towers, quarters, door seams, suspension arms and drive it home

Especially this, specifically the rears.
$750 still leaves me with $1500 from the settlement to have fun with mods/deferred maintenance. And that doesn't touch what little savings I've got.
Looks like a steal to me. I have no firsthand experience, but I've heard nothing but good about these Mazda BP motors. I say snag it and have fun!
They're 2door hatchback 90-94 Protege LXs, but with much crappier interior build quality.
Good reliable cars, fun to drive, decent gas mileage, enormous hatch.
Rust is really the main thing to look for, and a "dropped shifter." Other than that, they're total cockroaches. That one seems to have an Escort LX grill, which isn't really an issue, just an observation. I have a spare GT grill or two kicking around i'd let go for pretty cheap if you're interested.
That car as a whole looks INCREDIBLY nice for $750. Bumpers don't even looked cracked. (Unobtanium.)
I ummm.... have one of these sitting in my garage with a TON of ridiculous and awesome parts on it, as well as some good body spares. (Entire front fascia in excellent shape) We're in the same state. We should talk.
Also: Let me know if you don't get this. I don't really WANT it for myself, but it'd be a cheap way to throw together a fast FSP car with all the parts i already have, and SWMBO really loved this car. Would be nice to give her SOMETHING after all the time i spent destroying hers.
And if you get the parts from Swank, grow tired of it or stuff it, I'd buy the parts from you when I'm capable of moving around more. I would've already picked them up off him if it weren't for medical issues
Damn, just called on it. Sold this morning.
Mine kept breaking passenger axles. But it was a bp swap into a pony. Turned out to be a worn trans mount and sticky tires causing it.
That sucks. That car was a steal if the pictures were even halfway accurate. Keep looking! There's a good amount of them out there and they're never expensive.
This is also where i tell you to look for an 88-92 MX6 GT.
Love those little cars! Unless it was rusted up I would have been on the road in seconds to pick it up.
Bruce
Yep. I'm always kinda keeping half an eye out for a clean one. I liked the wagon I had a lot and a GT would be fun.
all I know is I almost traded my s10 (2wd, 2.8 v6) for a pink one in college. Car was fun as crap to drive, but the PO smoked like a chimney inside and I couldn't take the smell.
I would've been on the road straight out of work to at least look at it, if it hadn't sold and I still need the check from insurance.
Though this ZX2 is still for sale:

Saw that ad a couple days ago, only reason I haven't called is I don't have time to go look at it yet. Should have known one of you guys would get to it first!

Same chassis, just has a Zetec motor instead. Those seem to be mechanical cockroaches around here too.

What he said.
Which means my same offer applies, other than the body parts. I also have most of an Energy Suspension poly bushing kit for one of these.
What do you know, I have a pet cockroach.

Interested in an '07 Accent hatch?
In reply to petegossett:
I could maybe be talked into one.
I also expanded my search a bit and came across this.

Got to wonder if there's something wrong with it the poster isn't saying.
^salvage title, hence teh cheapness.
^ ^ Also the fact that they're "advertising" a fwd hatchback with "Who's ready to drift"
