How legitimate are the individuals on Ytube repairing "things"? I've viewed an episode of repairing instrument panel cluster circuit boards associated with gmt360's .....in particular my 04 bravada....which happened to click all the buttons. When I went down the email rabbit hole , first asking beginner ?'s and then more in depth why when what and how...I'm now getting a "I'm a little bit busy right now"  what do y'all make of this?

If I see more than a few doing it in relatively the same way, I can assume its reasonably correct. The comments section, although a cesspool, can give you an idea if the video is bullE36 M3 or not. Also, if its anything by Scotty Klimer, its 100% E36 M3.

Verify the person and the sources. If it comes from a legit shop, it's more likely to be correct than if it comes from a "project car" channel - because the shop has done it over and over again instead of just once.

We have elevated the amateur at our peril. Clicks and production values don't make you an expert. Experience does.

A lot of crap hacks out there posing as experts.  I watch a bunch of videos on a specific task and it is obvious who knows what they are doing and who doesn't.  Other thing I have decided is this is for basic repair stuff, the experts on the advanced tasks are not going to share their skills and knowledge.

Generally, I'll check out the task at hand.  Then I'll Ytube it to see if it makes sense.  Usually it does for the maintenance and simpler repair jobs.  As with anything on the internet, caveat emptor applies.

Don't just watch one video.  Watch multiples from different sources doing the same job.  Each one, for time or content, skips over something or another is more detailed on a "tricky part" rather than just glossing over.

"I'm a little bit busy right now" could translate to "I don't know any more on this topic." But it could also translate to "I put this on the internet to try and help some people, but didn't sign up for answering dozens of emails from a bunch of people that viewed it."

If this person is selling a product or service, then I think it's reasonable to expect some thorough knowledge, but they may also want to avoid giving away their secrets. If they just posted a video to show some others how they did something, then I think 1 or 2 responses is plenty. Any more than that starts to be a bit inconsiderate of their time.

I know of a guy that fixes clusters as a side hustle.  I dropped mine off at his house, he hooked it up to his tester only to tell me it works perfectly.  Turns out I had a shorted wire right under the drivers feet.  Who puts a wire loom directly under where you step!  GM, that's who.

Update.....the first individual is legit, just buried with clusters. It just so happens he posted several others across the US that do this sort of diagnosis/repair, one of whom is no more than an hour from my house. Will be seeing him next Tuesday........scoreboard!!! Y'all have a safe and peaceful Labor Day.......
