I hear most people leave old appliances they don't want anymore at either goodwill or a side ditch by a woods.....

I understand and agree GPS. However, SWMBO isn't thrilled with the idea. I was seeing if I am the only one suffering for the sake of MPGs....

90 mile commute is too far. If that's a long term job, sell your house and move closer. Seriously you're wasting your time worrying about what car you're making that insane commute in.

That is round trip everyone. It only takes me about 45 minutes. This is Missouri after all.

We sold ours for half what we paid for it after owning it for 6 years. After I thought it was all used up. Apparently not, as I saw it on the road last friday.

I'm lucky, the wife drives the soul-sucking appliance for her 75 mile round-trip. She views the cars as an appliance. My DD is at least entertaining.

Out of curiosity, where are you? I'm getting bored to death with my 91 Miata, and have thought about an insight as the commuter car. This is probably a no-go, but if you're anywhere near Maryland, maybe we should discuss possible foolishness.

I have a 72 mile commute by choice. Lots of land, massive garage, privacy. We used to live in town and had a short commute but you couldn't get me to go back to that. Most days my commute is on my bike and I enjoy it.

+1. Wife does 75 miles a day, I do 50. There's no way in hell you'll ever get me into another cvookie cutter house shoved against 400 other coolie cutter houses within city limits. I believe the wife's favorite saying about that is: "F*@# that." She doesn't cuss.... much.

I am in the middle of the country, Missouri. I don't think a miata is my answer. I dd'ed a MR2 spider for almost a year and quick because of drop top with no storage is not easy to live with. The insight has pretty good storage by comparison.

I work one city over but we live on an acre and a half and moved there because people and HOAs and such suck.

what part of the insight bothers you the most? That's what I would focus on "fixing" with whatever you might replace it with. The wife's old Accent was a fun momentum car that you could drive at 11/10ths all day every day as long as you never used the brakes. Touch the brakes and reaccelerating sucked. But it handled good and she saw high 30's to low 40's mpg. It was crude, rough and noisy but it LOVED to be tossed, flogged and beaten. If that's what you want, it'd be a great car for you. Not much of a hit on economy, but lots of fun.

But if you want comfort/quiet and power, it's not it.

I see where you're coming from, I'm beginning to hate my cr-z even though it is a nice car and saves me money. Fortunately my summer Miata is keeping me from driving the Honda into a tree on purpose.

As for the recommendation of a hell raiser dd that has a lower buy in (thus equal expenses,) there is something beautiful in ANY appliance that starts on the first try with working hvac systems to get you home after working a 16 hour shift from hell.

The insights are somewhat hacked, would a manual ima controller interest you? I wanted one for my Honda before the mpg glory wore off.

My boring Honda plans are to keep it and put a v8 in my Miata or get a Cayman for non-Honda days....

The fact that a lot of the tangibles ASIDE from the mpgs SUCK! I will say the SC blows nice and cold, but fully at the expense of what little power there is. The seats are terrible, the rear suspension is really under damped (known issue), it makes no power and is geared so that what little power there is can't be accessed without grueling effort (not rev happy), and the stereo is worthless even though I have upgraded to components and an alpine 4 channel amp. The speakers I think I can fix but have to remount and the seats I can replace. I have new shocks for the rear but the reviews on those are very mixed. The rest I won't think about because that is a dark modding path this car shouldn't tread.

Next time, take an extended test drive before you buy.

OP, are you a regular person (that buys a car without test driving one) that is imitating a grassroots enthusiast?
