I, too, have my "side of the road" tool kits in each vehicle, although I really haven't had much need for them since I stopped driving British cars regularly.
I love old tools, wearing proud phrases like "Forged in USA". There were so many towns across America where everyone either worked at the factory or was related to someone who did. Some hundred-year-old tools are better than what you can buy today. I actually have a couple of old tool boxes full of heirloom tools, the forged steel equivalent of a family photo scrapbook. I may build a pegboard display of old wrenches, as my own little tool museum.
One good thing is that a tool collection consumes a lot less space than a car collection.
