Specifically a 01 deville. Picked it up for scrap price. Northstar 4.6 runs and drives like a champ, and spins the tires the entire length of the parking lot. Unibody is rotted and front springs are broke failing inspection. It's not worth fixing, so I was gonna toss it in the local roundy round demolition enduro. Any ideas tips or tricks ?

I wonder if it could repower one of these:
Edit: looks like you'd be down 100lb ft, but up 35 hp against the stock 455.

Had a 98 ETC block is die cast with fine pitch head bolts, just a matter of time before you lift the heads and the repair isn't simple, but I loved that engine...
Are demo dirt tracks standing start? If so, have fun trying to dig out of the tire rut you make. That fwd will be murder.

The whole car, or just the FWD V8?
There was a Northstar powered VW Cabrio that I spent a lot of time lusting after... Even bought the Cabrio and the Northstar to build it (but never did).
I took the Northstar Caddy to the Challenge (2007?) in stock trim (chained the hood closed, and welded on a junkyard bumper core and off-road lights). We called it "The Ratty Caddy".
It didn't do badly.
I'd like to run it to see how it would do , but Id sell out too if the price was right. I've got a small pile of Cavaliers to build for the figure 8's this year still

I'd rather buy something after it was run some, and don't care about the condition of the body or rust.
Where are you?
about a half hour north of syracuse ny. 13142
Has to be better than the 4.1
I think that FWD V8s are great in a rear engine project.
The Northstars are kinda meh for me. I've seen too many lift heads, crack blocks near the pan rail (and sometimes leak into the sump without letting you know before spinning a main). The worst part is the 4T80E tranny. They die. Not horrible or frequently, but they are expensive to build (parts) and a berkeleyING NIGHTMARE to R&R. I've found ways of doing it without following the factory service manual (which requires removing the ABS system along with many of the lines). The way to do it is to drop the entire front subframe with motor and trans. Then you can kinda take the tranny off from the top. Its not pretty.
The good news is, good running 4T80E cores bring a nice penny, and there are still some folks out there who think a Northstar is a wonderful swap engine. Yank, sell, scrap the rest?
