Now that i've probably lost your interest with an intentionally vague topic title.

Because i'm stupid, i've already forgotten how much i hated building the Escort, so after refreshing my MX6, then building mndsm's Challenge MX6, i'm jumping into another project.

My Problem:

I don't know what to do with it. I don't want another autocross car, i already have a fun street bruiser (MX6), and i'm not really going to have the time to get my licenses for Time Trials/Hillclimbs which is what i think this next project might be best suited for.

Basic goals/details of the car:

2100lbs
RWD
~400whp, 400+ ftlbs
Top speed: 200+mph (theoretical. Drag will become an issue.)

What other things is there to do with something like this? Obviously i can drag race it, but it won't be set up for that, set up more for corner-carving of some sort. It WOULD be legal for SCCA Solo SSM competition, but again, i don't need or want another autox car.

I'm going to build it either way, but just wondering if there's something else out there, or if it's just going to be relegated to a true "toy" that will just see mostly cruises, meets, short trips, and small local events.

Is this an actual vehicle or just a hypothetical one?

Oh, and yes, based on this^, you should definitely build it!

So basically a supercar? Well there are large tracks...

It's an actual vehicle, but because i know how this board goes when actual builds are discussed at times, i'm leaving that out of it for the moment. This is a thread about what to do with said vehicle, not how to make it better, why it doesn't need to be so fast and/or powerful, or how someone else would build it instead.

It's getting built anyways.

So you're thinking HPDEs and some traveling?

Will you have time to license up by the time you're done building it? Could you just keep adding extra awesome to the build 'til that becomes the case?

Probably not... i could keep adding extra awesome to the build until i have the time to get the licenses, though. Could be fun.

Why not approach it with that goal from the start? If you've got cars to scratch your currently viable itches, why not set your sights way high, and give yourself plenty of time for fabbing, scrounging, and saving?

Mostly because it'll be done a bit sooner than that. I guess i'm wondering if there's anything else cheap and easily accessible like autocross... that isn't autocross.

I guess worst case scenario it turns out that i like the car enough to treat as a summer daily/jack of all trades and it never sees the track at all due to attachment and not wanting to throw it away?

+442 Locost build with LS1 and T56. You might be able to stay under your weight "budget".

How close are you to Ohio? The ECTA does two standing-mile events a year at the Ohio Mile. That would be really cool to do. You would get to play with aero a lot for sure.

But the obvious answer is really rallycross. This thing's going to be lifted, right?

Standing mile will happen with this car, but won't be a priority for it. Aero i have planned will be more for keeping a car with known "lightness" issues at speed on the ground rather than streamlining for max speed. But yes, i agree that it would be really cool to do, but i don't feel like building a Miata for land speed racing is a great use of my time or money.

I honestly gave thought to rallycross, but i'm starting with a nice car, and i'd like to keep it somewhat nice.

One of those things at the periphery of my consciousness I've never had call to research: Solo I? Pro Solo?

I have it in my head that these are larger/faster courses, but still not road racing...

What about paved hillclimbs? You'd have to cage the snot out of it though, which would probably kill the street car-ness.

Time Attack is supposed to be all sorts of fun, plus really no rules. No door-to-door competition, either, so it's easier to prep/license/etc for.

Yeah, the Escort will fulfill those duties. I'm trying to think beyond cone stuff.

Cage in a street car doesn't bother me. I'm willing to take the risk. A cage was already on the agenda anyways.

Hillclimb and Time Attack in the SCCA require pretty much the same licensing, and there isn't much for events. This IS pretty much my end goal for the car, don't even care if it's competitive, just something i can drive out to in a weekend, race, and drive it back. But the licensing is the stopper right now.

I doubt i'd be able to get my licensing before 2015. I'm cool with waiting until then, just trying to find things to do so the car doesn't become a garage ornament after it's done.

Oh, and i AM thinking UTCC.

Not that i've ever heard of. Dunno if their marketing is aggressive or not, though.

What marketing?

(That should answer your question)

Also, just do a ZIP-code search on where2race.com. They don't have everything yet, but you would be surprised at the number of local clubs that host their own racing events or venues you've never heard of. There's a local club that does an event at a semi-local airport I've really been meaning to go check out.

Cool site!!!!

Nothing but autocross until i open it up to 250 miles, then there's HPDE style stuff at 3 tracks.

I've figured it out. You're putting another silly-boosted F2T in an Opel GT.

Heh you've got the motor right but not the car. It's not really a secret, I've got a couple threads scattered with related questions over the last few months. I already have the car.
