There are a tone of turbo kits out there to fit your stock motor and they hold up reasonably well. I boosted my 85 mr2 on a bone stock 4age for over a year with out an issue and made about 220whp, it was a simple set up 440cc injectors out of a supra, a garret t3 60-trim with a .48 A/R, walbro pump, A2W intercooler and ran it all on MS1 V2.2 (built it with a scrap ecu plug and scrap afm plug so everything was plug and play).
If you don't like that idea just swap in a sr20det it been done plenty of times and if you keep it stock or just do simple bolt ons it has factory reliability(assuming you do a clean install)
I had a silvertop in my '85 MR2 for a while, it made something like 150 on the dyno with a bit of head flow work. It was a fantastic motor and sounded like an F1 car. I have read about doing turbo's on these as well, but have no real experience.
By contrast, Hoelschers DP MR2 puts out more than that with a NA 4AGE. There are plenty of upgrades for these and they are fantastic motors. Not sure why you want to change engines as it seems more trouble than the swap advantages, but hey, I like a swap as well as the next guy.
That said, if it were me, I'd pull out the Honda cataloge and go from there. Just saying...
Just thinking a boosted ecotech would be fun,no experience with those other than watching solstices dodge cones.
