You can clean it with a Scotch Brite pad and some WD40. Wipe it off with some paper towels and you should be good. I like WD40 as it discourages rust but won't prevent it, it's easy to apply and remove, it doesn't leave an oily residue, and it's available almost anywhere.
I have a JMR fab table top- 3/8" thick 2x4'. I like the slots that you can use those fixturing sets for.
