Yeah I ended up doing exactly what I didn't want to do, which was condemn, correct, or be negative about someone's point of view. I get the irony, which I should have clarified in my post. I also get your post wasn't meant to be isolationist or superior in nature but more of a thought exercise. Sometimes we read what we want to read vs what's really there. I'm often guilty of that. I'm also much like yourself a contrarian by nature. It's a hard habit to kick.

But yes I think our hobby in general is so wasteful and pointless. Yet I still partake in every year, even if it's not racing. Every project I start ends up being a waste of money and resources. It sure is entertaining to me. From the outside I look like a crazy person that burns cash with little reward. I wish I was into watching TV or something instead. It certainly would make my wallet grow faster with a quicker retirement on the horizon.

I'd forgotten it was a Targa, which as you may know I really like. I roared with laughter at that scene.

And yes I was referring to the Olive Garden. While I don't have a single drop of Italian, 75% of my family does and so I grew up with Italian home cooking. My cousin says I'm Italian by osmosis. When we grew up is you pronounced something wrong like "mair-a-nair-a" you'd instantly get corrected with the mar-e-nar-a................oh and for God's sake don't let them here you order Man-a-cot-e............it's Mahn-a-goat. It's insufferable I know but it's reflexive.

Ironically I will eat at Denny's. Of course I have coined the phrase "why do we eat at Denny's? " "Because its open".

So Off topic (that never happens here).

On the VARA Social facebook page for Vintage Auto Racing Association you'll see I posted about racing saving my life.

With my ADD racing gives me an outlet and direction in life.

I thought we were talking about cars that look fast and "sporty" but really arent.  Amazing the directions these threads go in sometimes...

Car projects or any mechanical project in nature are the same for me. It's like a lighthouse. Without it I'm a mess.

Preeeeeety sure I'm not the only one with ADD on the forum.

So on a serious note I like the fact that we go everywhere all at once.

This has been beat to death...

So, I'll throw my 2 cents in.

My view of a poser is someone who does something that they don't necessarily enjoy just to get the attention of those that do enjoy it.

It's definitely a weird thing.

That being said, there are some cool cars being built on this forum, or have been built, that I would have asked WHY in my younger years.

I would have even considered those poser cars.

Why put a v6 in an old Datsun when you could put a v8 in it?

Why put all of the drivetrain from say a camaro into a miata?  You could just drive the camaro.

Etc. Etc.

Now, those builds are my favorite.  In fact, because people are choosing to build what they want instead of the ultimate performance machine, it's almost the opposite of being a poser.

So, to clarify....  it's a state of mind or personality issue.  If you are doing what you want, how you want, that is the opposite of being a poser.

I ask those type of questions on here.

Mainly because I'm a flake who can't commit.

I admit it took me months to decide what wheels to order for my BRZ back in '2022. If I drove more I was thinking about buying another set just to mix up the look once in a while. But I don't want to spend another $4k on a different wheel/tire setup.

How come I have never seen one style of wheels on one side of a car and a different style on the opposite side. The best of both worlds. Most people would never notice.

I've seen it multiple times. But they are typically tilty-wheel cars or show cars.

I'm not really a fan of it.

I'd assert that this was my poser car--

When you consider getting a vanity plate reading NOTADJ, pretty sure it's a poser car per the spirit of this thread.

I had been pondering getting one of these.  Don't know why.  Then I saw the etron GT.

I have a weak spot for the i8. So cool and interesting. And that color, too.

But then I realize that buying one would cost the same as me buying a new Miata and putting a Camaro drivetrain in it...

In my case it's plasma cutting the floor out of the Datsun 1200 and mounting the shell onto a Formula Atlantic chassis.
