A co-worker came to me the other day and asked how to get rid of a car (FIL Roadmaster wagon). After telling him about donating to SA or Goodwill, I got to thinking it may have a desirable engine, but wasn't sure which one. A bit of checking leads me to belvie it has an LT-1. Is this correct and what is the HP rating? Are they worth the effort to snatch it? I have no plans for it.

What year is it? 94-96 had the LT-1.
Depends on the year. Up to 93 it was a SBC. In 94 I think they switched to the LT-1
Looks like the 350 was 180HP and the LT-1 was 260
I asked him the year when he came in and he didn't know????? I'll bet it is one of the earlier ones.
He is not a car guy.

Maybe the FIL was.
No such luck. I've seen it. It was co-workers daily driver for a while.

What else is wrong with the car? Those sell for some good money, if I was closer I'd make an offer that's well below its worth :)

Only reason he is getting rid of it is they have three cars and don't need but two. It has 160k miles on it and doesn't get very good gas mileage. He has had a little work done on it over the years, but not much. It is no beauty and has faded wood siding. I suspect it has a cracked manifold.
just drop it off at my house - I'll take it from there

I know of someone looking for one of these right now and is willing to travel for it if its and LT1 car. If he wants to sell let me know and I'll put them in touch.
He could post it cheap on impalassforum.com and it would sell quick. These cars are pretty desirable. If I had the time and means to get down there I'd seriously throw him an offer.

Dual exhaust = LT1
Single exhaust = SBC
Mmm, I'm not so sure about that. Single exhaust 94-96 means the neutered 4.3L V8 SBC. Prior to 94, it was a 350.

find out what year it is. I'm interested in it if it's rust-free.

Yes, but that was not the case for the wagons. As far as I can remember, only the Caprice sedan had the 4.3 V8 (L99) option.
they all had 350's.. with TBI up to 93, and in the form of the LT1 from 94-96.

Some of them (pre LT1) had 305s too, mostly the Caprices, not sure if they ever saddled the Roadmaster with the 305, but the Caprices definitely came with it.
I've asked my friend to check what year it is. He doesn't drive it anymore, so I may have to swing by his house.
