Hmm just bought a 2013 Volvo c30 which I absolutely love. I just got an offer to move to london. I'd probably stay there a year or two. Car is valued at $20k, I owe about $8k. I could store it at mothers place but I'm wondering if the depreciation will make it even worth holding onto. And I might not even want to come back to USA too.. Carmax??

It's just a car.
Bankroll the money, and look for another one when you come back.
A used car is really the wrong kind of umbilical cord when starting an adventure like this.
Anything special about it? If not sell. Money is easier to store.
One the one hand, GRMers will buy cars then forget they own them for several years (I remembered the other day, hey I have an early build GTI... neat) but on the first hand, if you sold it and walked away with $10k, what interesting crap could you buy in/near London that would make all of us jealous?
I say Peugeot 106 Rallye. Because I am biased towards small manic cars.
Yea that is true. For $10k I could buy and insure a sick motorcycle on london. And have some left over.

Sell. You could always buy another one if and when you return, and if you still want one then.
If it's not a 6 speed t5, sell it. Even if it is I'd probably sell it and buy any one of the cheap good cars I see on wheeler dealers and top gear

All it really is is some of a Mazda3 with a Swedish body. Its gonna depreciate. Go to europe with cash. Buy something awesome and 23 years old. Ship it back when its 25.....
A 67 Camaro, store it. A volvo? Sell it and buy another one.
I'd just buy a £5k Ferrari or Maserati when you got there....

Nah, sell that camaro anyways and buy a firebird when you came back.....
Keep in mind: London isn't cheap, so extra capital won't hurt.
Also: it's a Volvo and while it's nice, it isn't a Polestar, etc. so I'd sell it.

and if you decide to stay in London, you can always hunt for one there ...
You could sell it and get a previous generation focus st! I love the way they look
It's cool, but not nearly as cool as what you could buy in London for that money. I'm with the 'liquidate and go be awesome' crowd.
sell it. No need to hold on to a depreciating asset that you aren't going to drive
There's so many more cool cars in England that we could never hope to get here. Sell it and look for a nice hot hatch (like the Peugeot 106 Rallye)
Donate it. You will feel a lot better about yourself and you will be more appealing to potential mates. I would even be willing to help take it off your hands...

Good luck finding a nice one of those...
To the OP - I've tried the extended vehicle storage bit after moving from one country to another. Unless it's very temporary (like a few months), I'd sell the car.

If you store there will be trouble,
If you sell it will be double.
So GRM you gotta let him know:
Should he sell or should be store?
(i am so sorry but i had this stuck in my head ever since first seeing this come up)
Put it up for sale and see what offers you get.
If you are heading to London, you probably won't need/want a car. It's more of a pain to have one there in a lot of ways.
No reason to store it. Sell it and put the money aside to get something when you get back to the states. (If you come back)
